Most strange experience - too easy in the morning. Caught 3 fish to 7lbs 6oz in a crazy 45 minutes - including loosing 5 others one of which the knot came undone (eye sight not what it was). Rested for awhile and chatted with my friend until lunchtime. After lunch - just couldn't get a take. My friend didn't manage a fish all day. Saw plenty in the morning but melted away later and the wind came up.
Facilities very good, toilet very clean. The owner one of the friendliest I have ever met.
The fishing platforms and banks perfect on the first lake. The second lake could do with having the weed removed. Not that it was crowded but I did like the fishing platforms. The advantage being that it gave clear guidance as to how close to fish to the next person. Many a venue I have caught a fish only for someone to come and stand within just a few feet.
The only downside for me was that behind some trees there is a sports centre and there was lots of cheering which was out of place in such an idealic setting. Mid week though all one would hear would be the birds and...
Read moreThe waters are crystal clear. The first lake is huge (Itâs deep and beyond anyone ability to cast where the fish hide in the middle) The owner said it was suitable for juniors (beginners) however when we attended as a junior we met up with very experienced fly fisherman with tens of yearâs experience only one fish was caught all day. They werenât impressed with lack of fish. In summary this is the most challenging for the most experienced fly fisherman. The larger lake is totally unsuitable for juniors and beginners. The smaller lake has NO signs of any fish nobody caught any fish on the smaller lake. The most disappointing feature of this fishery is they donât supply a voucher / ticket to come back if you donât catch your amount (quota) of fish paid for. Very expensive and no fish to show for it we wonât be...
Read moreNever again, expensive to fish a contrived chalk stream situated in a building site... The river appears to have been diverted from its original course to allow construction of two artificial trout lakes. The river contains small rainbow trout, far from natural and Frank Sawyer would have been appalled if he had ever fished here which I doubt... I have fished in many rivers all over the world and I wouldn't waste my money on Avon Springs. There are far better and more natural places to fish on the Wiltshire rivers, perhaps a bit more expensive but worth the money for...
