Three stars for the coffee and sorroundings. No stars for the meal selection. We have stayed in Langdale twice in the past few weeks and started using the hotels for meals as Sticklbarn, since being taken over for the national trust, no longer caters for walkers appetites. I think the menu is catering for peopl ewho are driving in and not walking in. I suspect it is designed by people in London. Get them out on the hills for six hours then ask them to make up a menu, it will cater for walkers better, and we are the vast majority of people around here. Pity as the coffee is lovely. I also have fond memories of the local mountain photos which used to adorn the walls but have now been removed, shameful of you National Trust to remove that heritage....

Two visits in the past week, I only live a few miles away, what a difference. Someone has listened as the current evening menu is perfect for walkers who want to put some calories back. Daytime menu to 17:30 is still not great for hungry walkers. Staff were were happy...

"A Ramble in the Langdales"

I packed up my boots and my Kendal Mint Cake, set off for the hills with a dodgy backache.

The Langdales they whispered, “Come hike us, you fool!” so I traded my sofa for bogs, wind, and cool.

First came a sheep with a judgmental stare, Like “You call that Gore-Tex? You won’t make it there.” Then up the path, steep as your nan’s old stairlift, I slipped on a rock and performed a 180 drift.

I met a fell runner, all lean and spry, He jogged past like a gazelle on a pie. While I wheezed and cursed, regretting my snack, (That fourth sausage roll’s not meant to come back.)

The views were divine—if your eyes weren’t misted, but mine were from wind, or the fact I’d just twisted my ankle while posing for some Instagram clout—now I’m limping and shouting, “Just crop my foot out!”

At last, down I stumbled to the pub at the base, with mud on my legs and a grin on my face, for though I was battered, bruised, and half-broken, The Langdales had spoken… in sweat,...

I am an American visiting here for the first time. My husband is a citizen here. We went to this tavern and my husband was hurt they have removed the pool table and all of the tv's and they have raised the meal prices making this place he has been coming to for years something else. Well my experience was we ordered our food from a menu that didn't have much of a veriety at all. So i just got the burger. We were number 20 and the table that was 21 came in way after we had already ordered and payed for our food. After waiting for about 20 min, table 21 gets their food before us. My husbands goes to the register and come to find out, they lost our ticket order. I wanted to get our money back and just leave, but my husband wanted to stay. We get our food and ALL we got was an apology!! Really?? What about dessert free, or one of our meals free because of your mistake? I will NEVER go there again. Customer service is not up to...

Great pub, owned by the national trust and has been here since I can remember, they have always outdone themselves on beer selections and their loaded fries are amazing!!! I learnt here that Kale, my least favourite veg, when baked can create a perfect accompaniment to dirty fries. They are always really friendly and helpful and the walk up the back toward Stickle Tarn is one of the best in the valley, although not for the faint hearted as it is quite a climb/scramble up the top. I would say it’s an intermediate, but worth the effort. ———————————————————- *Update* So we ate here on our last evening up this week and OMG… the lamb burger was incredible… full of flavour and it just became the best meal ever when I upgraded my fries to their loaded fries… I could have literally eaten it twice… great reward for climbing up to Stickle Tarn.

Called in after seeing they offered vegan options, a few days earlier when we walked the Pikes and so after finishing a walk up Lingmoor we called in for lunch. We ordered garlic mushrooms and peacamole on sourdough toast with skin on fries. The food was delicious, lovely sourdough toast, loved the peacmole idea, although the skin on fries priced at £3.25 are way overpriced for the portion size. Service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely revisit. Revisited again today for lunch after a tough walk in the freezing wet weather.. Ordered two cauliflower wings, hash browns and fries with two pints of Helles lager. Absolutely delicious food, substantial and satisfying..love this place.
