First we would like to say how clean the hotel was. Due to the virus there was plenty of hand sanitizer around to be used. The staff are very friendly, polite, and helpful, could not fault. Afraid the food let them down in my view. The first night we had steak which was very tasty but also a bit tough but plenty and good service. Breakfast was good but the toast was so thin that my toast was dry and snapped I could not spread the jam . Our second night we had lamb rump but unable to cut so asked for steak knives. A lot of sinue and raw in the centre so only ate the outer part of the meat. When asked if everything was ok, replied disappointed. The plates taken away. They returned and apologies given. Everything was rectified to our satisfaction with no argument. Liked the way they dealt with the complainant and after all we all make mistakes. As we are of the older group we would have felt a bit safer if servers had masks other wise ok. We would be happy to return.

Lovely pub. Lovely place to have the full English breakfast in the morning before a day hike. The soup is incredible. 5 stars very cosy and they have evening entertainment.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel is a Great place from which to Enjoy the Spectacular Valley of Great Langdale and The Langdale Pikes.... it is situated in a Superb location with the Pikes right behind the Hotel, the Hotel is Extremely Clean and Tidy, well Presented and A Special Thanks for the Staff & Management Team who have continued to Deliver the High Standards, despite Staff Shortages... The Rooms are very Comfortable, there is a Guest Lounge, which overlooks a Beautiful Garden, with a Stunning Magnolia Tree, which is just Blooming at the moment, put this Together with Early Morning Mist, Sublime Mountain views, Beautiful Birds Singing, It's a place to relax and forget about the Strain of the current situation.... Bar meals and Evening Meals are taken respectively in the Walkers Bar,or the Patio adjacent to the main Entrance, and Residents in the Hotel Dining Room...very Spacious and comfortable it is too... So Enjoy šŸ˜‰....

I write this with a heavy heart. When booking here you are booking with a soulless big company based in the states, I had no response to changing booking, no one to contact.

Service in restaurant crap, no one came to us for over 40 minutes, in the end had to order own drinks from bar, which I didn’t mind, but obviously when your having a meal with table service you expect to be served your drinks.

Food when it finally came around 1.5 hours later: Korean chicken was like powder not nice, I never leave food but I left that. Burrata was well presented and good size. Was tasty too. Lamb shank very tender, and nice touch having pomegranate and aubergine, but sauce tasted like it was out of a jar. We were told that we had to keep our order under £28 even though it said nothing in the t&cs. Then when we challenged it this policy was instantly revoked, weird that.

What was really annoying is the only reason we stayed here was so we could listen to the live music in the Landry Slees across the way, but by the time we got out of the restaurant it had finished.

Despite paying for a superior room, it did not feel we had one, we could hear everything that was going on in the rooms around us.

Internet in the room was awful.

Breakfast got off to a bad start, I was sat waiting 15 minutes just for someone to offer me a drink. Weirdly the breakfast itself was the best experience of the stay, it came quickly and was cooked well, it is possible to mess a fry up up but this is one thing that wasn’t bad, I’d even say it was good, they were clearly understaffed again and they’d run out of Milk, not that it affected me, but how can you run out of milk in the lakes?

I don’t like to complain and bad mouth businesses, but not only is this place tired and in serious need of an update for example we had a load of cracked floor tiles in our bathroom, there was missing carpet in the restaurant. Especially when you pay around Ā£240 for 1 night!!!

You can’t just rely on a stunning location, eventually your...

We went to New Dungeon Ghyll for my sister in law's wedding. We also stayed for a couple of nights. Our room (6) was pleasant enough, although on arrival I had to ask the receptionist to have someone clean the shower, as there were pubes in it, and some muck in the corner. Given the price, unacceptable. The staff were outstanding in every way, I cannot fault them. The only issue is there's not enough of them! Which led to large waits at the bar. Breakfast was of good quality, with a selection of self service cereals & fruits, and a cooked breakfast to order. We didn't use the restaurant except during the wedding breakfast, which was good quality, a lamb Sunday dinner, despite it being a Friday! The wedding itself was excellent, although I think that was mainly down to the wedding planner rather than the hotel, however the setting is idyllic. Unfortunately we had peeing rain all day! But that can't be helped. The bride and groom got dolled up the following day and we took some amazing photos in glorious sunshine with the stunning hills in the background. Bar prices are pretty high, but given they pretty much have a captive audience, that's to be expected. It's about £4.10 For most ales/lagers, and cost me £8-£9 for a large laphroaig. My only real bone of contention was the bed. It was small, VERY soft and lumpy and hard to get a decent nights sleep in. But...

Utterly Disappointing!

Booked 7 non residents for breakfast on Thursday 24th July. We were a party completing the CW walk and stayed in the close by Langdale Bunk House.

On our arrival to the restaurant 07:50 for 08:00, we were informed that ā€œYou’re early, we aren’t ready, wait outside!ā€ You get one chance in life to make a good first impression and this establishment failed miserably!

The waiter that attended to us throughout our visit was unhelpful, dismissive and bordering on rude!

When asked about the cost of the breakfast he was vague and again very dismissive this lead to a number of out party being charged, what we feel was excessive prices for their food.

Having been completely ignored by the waiter on two occasions and having to be convinced not to leave, one young member of our group was charged Ā£14 for a bowl of porridge and a glass of water! šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

A couple of guest on the table behind us were heard saying ā€œThat waiter definitely doesn’t want to be here!ā€

The service on this occasion was way below what you would expect, several members of our group stated: ā€œ that’s the last of my money spent in here!ā€

On reflection, I suppose we can all have a bad day however, if your bad day results in customers leaving your establishment feeling unwelcome, underwhelmed and unwilling to return,...
