I saw an advert on social media recently … “ six best steak pies in Glasgow “. I decided to take a drive up to Blackadders butcher in Maryhill road. One of the photos on their website showed three quarter pound pies for £6.90 ( I think ) . I purchased two and was flabbergasted to see that they are about £9.00 each , not sure as I wasn’t given a receipt. I also put a bridie for £1.70 ( I think). First of all , the uncooked pastry didn’t go down too well. Any steak pies I’ve bought in the past , the pastry has always been cooked. I wasn’t sure if I should be egg washing the pastry ? After much deliberation, my wife convinced me to egg wash it. Once it was cooked , I was totally underwhelmed by the steak pie. Not much steak ! ! ! ( I think they weigh it with the pastry and container). It was average at best. I cooked the bridie the following day and I was underwhelmed again. Not a lot of filling for the money . The pastry tasted okay but could hardly taste anything else. “ Steal pies are our specialty “ … they are proud to boast. Not in my experience. Sorry , but your products are overpriced and are … at best … AVERAGE. Won’t be returning.
In response to your reply , you did not address the issue about the uncooked pastry . Never bought a steak pie with raw pastry rolled over the tray. I was sharing one three quarter pie with my wife , my daughters shared the other one . Everyone agreed that there was barely enough meat for two people, let alone three . You never addressed the issue with the bridie, very little filling. Not worth the money. As to cooking xmas orders in June , maybe you should concentrate on quality rather than quantity. I don’t mind paying more for an item if it’s good value ( I’m not on a budget). Very clever marketing, leaving an old photo on your site , then charging 35 - 40 % more , maybe I will contact consumer rights about that . Anyway , maybe all your loyal customers are happy with your products but I certainly won’t be returning...
Read moreI recently visited this shop first time and bought a lb of mince and four square sausage. I was charged £11.50 - £7.50 for the mince. In the middle of being served, a set of fluttering eyelashes entered distracting the guy who was serving me. He gave her eggs and continued serving me, writing down his working on a bit of paper. This is the point where HE should have caught his error, but he was still flirting with the eyelashes. How about making sure your employees are focused on serving customers and not flirting with them to avoid reviews like this. I should not have to tell a butcher that has a lb of mince right in front of him, that £7.50 is a mistake. I won't...
