We visited Holdens in edgeworth for the first time yesterday and was greeted by a lovely lady behind the ice cream counter. Myself, my partner and my daughter all had an ice cream which was absolutely gorgeous. However, and much more importantly was the ladies kindness towards me. I very recently suffered a stroke at 37, 4 months after giving birth to my son. I have lost a lot of mobility and confidence and what the lady didn’t know was that this was my first trip out of my home since my discharge from hospital. I was extremely nervous about my mobility but she was so patient and kind and made me feel so comfortable. So much so we decided to go and get some lunch today and visited again. The lady remembered us instantly and told me she had prayed for me and she will never know how much that meant to me. We had a lovely lunch (and another ice cream) but more importantly I enjoyed more time out of the house and felt happy and comfortable outside of my 4 walls. Thank...

Update: Went back again today to take my husband and daughter. Ice cream again was fab. We were told there would be no hot food as a fuse had blown so we went for sandwiches and a plowmans. Sandwiches were lovely, lots of salad and coleslaw. The Plowmans however was a different story. Described as good to share or something along those lines but it was small! 2 quarters of a small pork pie, 2 chunks of cheese (one of them old and dry), a bunch of grapes that looked past their best, bread (a bit dry) and nice but small tub of chutney. I wouldn't recommend it but if you do fancy trying it there's not enough to share and definitely not worth £7.95. Only one staff member (who was lovely) waiting on and doing food so tables were not cleared. ...
Read moreThis has long been a landmark in Edgworth village and as ever there were queues out of the door on a warm summer's weekend afternoon. But our latest visit was rather underwhelming and disappointing compared to a visit the day before to Hudson's ice cream shop in Chatburn. That was charming - and quite a bit less expensive; this came across as rather clinical, with too great an array of cones on offer, many at rather high prices, which took the attention away from the ice cream itself and, as we realised when we finally reached the counter, was a major factor in the queue being slow-moving. Time was when it was just vanilla here, in a cone or a tub. Now there is a variety of flavours, which is fair enough. But how big an array of cones is needed? It's the ice cream that counts. And try to serve with a smile, please. We know it's warm, we know you are busy, but try and make it a fun experience rather than a...
