We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Oakfield Caravan Park. Four adults and two 2 year olds, we stopped in an Executive Plus 3 bedroom caravan which was new this year.
Our first impression of the park was good, very clean, tidy and well looked after. When we checked into our caravan however, we were not best pleased. The cleaning had been done 4 days previously and the caravan had been unoccupied since then. The cleaning was to a good standard. The housekeeper had not visited and the previous occupants dirty towels and bedding were still on the beds! I went to report this to reception and as promised, clean bedding and towels were delivered to us within 20 minutes. We were not satisfied with the cleanliness of these as some of them were quite badly stained. We had shopping to do so at this point we went to the local Asda, conveniently situated about half a mile away. When we returned about an hour and a half later, we got around to making up the beds. It was now that we realised that we had no bottom sheet for the double bed and four pillow cases were missing! I was now getting very angry. The reception area was closed and so I went into the club house and told the girl behind the bar what had happened. She telephoned for someone to come and help me. Within 10 minutes I had the necessary bedding.
That night we decided to turn in early as we were tired after the journey. However, this was not easy as we had been placed in a caravan about 50 yards from the entertainment complex of the site next door! We had to endure the boom boom, bang bang from their Karaoke and disco until 0150!! Why the hell is a top of the range caravan located in this position?? Not good enough Oakfield!
My other complaint is about misleading photographs advertising the caravan on Oakfield's website. The photo of our caravans bedroom clearly shows a radiator on the wall underneath the window. There was no heating in any of the bedrooms which surely should be present in a caravan described as "Executive Plus"!!
Anyway, in conclusion, if you want a cheap holiday with the kids, by all means give Oakfield a go. I'm sure the problem we encountered with dirty linen isn't something encountered regularly. Just make sure that you ask for accomodation well away from their own and next doors...
Read moreUpon our arrival, we were quite shocked at the poor condition of the caravan. Firstly, the overall cleanliness was well below acceptable standards. There was visible dirt and dust in various areas of the caravan, making it clear that it hadnât been properly cleaned prior to our stay. The kitchen tap came off in my hand. Additionally, we noticed mould in the bedroom and bathroom and on some of the window seals, which raised concerns about the health and safety of staying in such an environment.||Furthermore, the toilet was broken which we were assured before our arrival would be fixed. When we arrived this wasnât the case and was assured again that it would be fixed that day if we could stay in the caravan and wait for maintenance as they only have one set of keys for the caravan which we had, so we waited in and were very disappointed to waste our first day of the holiday waiting for nobody to show.. it was unusable during our stay, which caused significant inconvenience. This issue was not something we anticipated or were prepared for, and it greatly affected our comfort and ability to enjoy the holiday.||The travel cot we hired was filthy and they advised they donât provide sheets for them. When we questioned this, they asked if the baby canât just sleep on the bare mattress. Baring in mind itâs just plastic.. shocking!||Furthermore the entertainment was non existent, the soft play area was still closed two hours after it was meant to open. Nobody at the bar to serves drinks and nobody in reception to address these complaints. ||There were also other guests really disappointed. ||We were eventually offered a move to another caravan but it was at another park, 25 minutes away but there was no entertainment available...
