We went on a Friday and it was locked. They make a big thing about the St Hilda connection and the visitor centre but then it's not open. I couldn't find anything on the website about opening times, so we just had to turn up and hope for the best, and we were unlucky. If you're travelling up and down the country, visiting Hartlepool is quite a detour to come up empty. I have since discovered the times on the website are hidden. If you click 'visitors', you get the menu options of 'tour 1' or 'tour 2' which tell you nothing about opening times. However, if you then reclick on 'visitors', the information magically appears.
