I don't usually review but escape rooms can be so hit and miss!
We were really looking forward to our visit today to play Chapel of Unrest, but unfortunately, our experience fell short for a number of reasons.
There was confusion at the very start. After asking us to arrive 15 minutes early we were expecting to be briefed but instead we were approached by four different staff members who all asked what we were waiting for. This made us feel a bit overlooked and unprepared going into the game.
We understand Chapel of Unrest is designed to be challenging, and we were excited for that. However, a number of technical issues and inconsistencies made it frustrating rather than enjoyable:
We were provided with three lanterns essential for gameplay. One ran out of battery within five minutes. We were asked to use phone torches and had to wait for it to be recharged. Another lantern was clearly on low power, making visibility extremely poor in an already very dark room.
A bell handle broke during gameplay.
One puzzle required counting books that, according to the answer, didnât actually exist. When we asked the games master afterwards, he couldn't explain why the answer didnât align with what we saw.
A directional clue had a clearly marked "begin here" sign, which directly contradicted the explanation given after the game. It left us confused about what the intended logic was.
We were hoping for a scarier atmosphere (even without an actor), but there was no clear storyline or connection to the roomâs theme, and very little in the way of suspense or atmosphere.
The clues we received during the game were very on-the-nose. Rather than giving us hints, they outright told us codes or where to look, which took the challenge and satisfaction out of solving things ourselves.
The TV screen frequently failed to display our time, which made it hard to know our progress.
After the game, we asked the games master to walk us through the puzzles we hadnât solved (as we've experienced in other escape rooms), but he seemed unsure of the solutions himself. His answers often didn't align with what we experienced, and he even admitted, âwell, people do it,â which wasnât very helpful or reassuring.
These issues really disrupted the flow and enjoyment of the game. We understand escape rooms are meant to be challenging, but when core mechanics break down and solutions make little sense (even to the staff) it makes it difficult to stay immersed or enjoy the experience.
And finally, on entering the room, I got a splinter from one of the props.
Weâre sharing this feedback not just out of frustration but in the hope it helps you improve the experience for future guests. Weâve played many escape rooms and always love a challenge, but this visit unfortunately missed the mark on...

The decor of this place is great. There is an air of mystery as soon as you enter the foyer. Kind of like an old school mansion house with its chesterfield sofas and rows of books all around.
There is also onsite parking, which is useful!
The staff was super friendly and helpful. This wasnât our first escape room so we kind of knew the gist of how things worked. The rules of the game were explained to us in the foyer and any instructions that were needed. My husband and I were then led to our escape room and locked in. Rooms need to be booked in advance online and we had booked âThe Choclocked Factoryâ The room was designed amazingly well with plenty of interesting puzzles. A completely immersive and enjoyable experience.
Thankfully, with the help of some clues, we managed to escape within the allocated 60 mins.
Once we finished we were greeted and congratulated by the staff member and led back to the foyer to take some fun congratulatory pictures.
Overall a great escape room experience. Definitely one of the best ones weâve been to so far. Will definitely visit again to try some of the...
Read moreDan was an amazing host! He was funny, and kept our game moving, even as we were storming it. There were four people in my party and we do regular escape games. We did the âhotel heistâ room, which was a second choice for us. Getting through the room was cool, there are lots of interesting clues, meaning you have to use a different part of your brain, WHICH I LOVED. Locked In is definitely in the top 2 games weâve played together - for reference, weâve probably done a minimum of 10 games as a team across the north.
The locks are good, the gameplay is fab and itâs got definite points of difference from the other rooms weâve played. Will definitely be coming back to try the other five games on offer!!
Itâs not the most difficult game weâve done, but it was one of the most...
