I can’t believe after four years of living in the area I’d never heard of this place! I must have been living under a rock. After “discovering” it, reading the glowing reviews, and learning the same family had been running it for 60 years, I genuinely wanted this to be good. Honestly, I was like a kid waiting for Christmas.
Unfortunately, it just didn’t deliver. The haddock was pink (never a good sign) and went straight in the bin. The batter was soft and almost soggy, while the chicken was drier than a Saharan dust storm. The chips, however, were great — the one saving grace.

Read moreWe have passed this fish bar quite a few times while we have been taking the dog for a walk and decided to give it a try the other day. To say they have been in business since the 60's, It was a little underwhelming.
The chips were soggy, the fish was a bit watery and tasteless as it had been frozen. The batter on the fish was quite soggy too after being wrapped.
Curry sauce was nice and tasty - standard chip shop curry, and the battered sausage was adaquate.
All in all I wouldn't rave about it but if you need a fill on a Saturday dinner time then give them a go.
Spending £40 for three of us was a little on the expensive side...
Read moreI have only ever had a great experience at this amazing local delicacy, but we were very disappointed this week - the portions are notably smaller and the usually wonderfully crispy batter was limp, wet and tasteless. The chips were also soggy, when they’re usually the best fish shop chips I’d ever eaten!
If they’ve changed their recipe or bought cheaper ingredients to make it, PLEASE revert back to whatever you were doing before. It was delicious.
