Maidstone Museum — Local services in Maidstone

This museum has always been and remains one of my favourite places to spend time in Maidstone - it is free to go in and the place is fascinating, from the historical and beautiful building it's housed in to all the exhibits themselves.

As we (my son and I) hadn't been for a little while we discovered it'd had a bit of a revamp inside on this occasion; some new exhibits wonderfully laid out, lots of interactive things for any young children to discover and try out on the way around. Not forgetting of course that the story of Iggy, our local celebrity dinosaur is told along with much more of 'Kent's Earth History'.

Don't forget to look up too - there's a whale on the ceiling in one area!

The Ancient Egyptian exhibit is a favourite of mine; it's quite peaceful which makes it feel rather respectful too given that the Mummy of Ta-Kush is in there... there's definitely an air of quiet serenity about her.

Everything is informative and well laid out throughout the museum; an eclectic mix of ancient artefacts right up to more modern history too.

The staff were friendly and welcoming as we walked in out of the rain. The place is as accessible as they can get it with lifts to upper floors and ramps where possible. Obviously, given the age of the building (no doubt a listed building at that) there are some areas that have small sets of stone or wooden stairs that can't be replaced by a modern ramp but the vast majority of the displays seem to have been designed to be user friendly no matter the age or ability of who's visiting...myself included! I'm an older soul shall we say, and stairs can be my nemesis!

It's a fantastic place to get lost in and we ended up in there for a good couple of hours looking at...

Amazing place to visit for learning and having fun. Very educational for both children and adults.

Above all visiting the museum is FREE. No excuse not to visit this amazing museum.

It's always well organised, clean with very child friendly, happy and very professional staff ( a very big thank you to Sam, Ash and Peter who have always been very helpful). The staff go out of their way to help (from my experience). Staff have been very helpful in dealing with my daughter's reluctance to explore the dinosaur's displays, whether it's during the Halloween trail, her birthday party or any other activities.

I have taken my daughter there several times for fun seasonal activities too. They are very good value for money.

They have amazing and fascinating activities for adults such as exploring Japanese culture, etc.

The museum shop is always full of amazing treasures which are reasonably priced. Their shop has helped my daughter several times with her history projects ( school and private ones too).

Booking a birthday party for my daughter was so straight forward and stress free. Confirmation of booking is sent straight away via email. A big thank you to Christine Charlesworth for all her help. We are looking forward to my daughter's Crazy Scientists birthday party.

The location is ideal as the museum is next to Maidstone East train station, Fremlin Walk car park and the buses stops in front of the building too. Absolute bliss and double bonus as driving is not required and kids love travelling by train.

The Maidstone Museum is a local treasure that needs to be preserved, valued...

Took my two children here today they loved it my daughter has done bit on it at school so found it very interesting to see the different bits that they had allso it is free to get it there is a cafe there as well I didn’t stop to see the prices we just carried on around the museum the place was tidy lots to see and touch in there think there is a fact sheet the kids can do as they go around so might be a good idea for teachers if you are looking to take agroup around your love it and so will the kids there isn’t any parking on site nearest parking would say would be fremlin walk but could be expensive I parked in chequers centre and walked up the high street towards Mc Donalds when you get to cex store turn left its down on your right so to all the guys and girls yesterday thank you for a interesting afternoon with my two love mr...
