I am extremely disappointed with Allander Leisure Centre’s Body Balance class and the way my girlfriend was treated. She arrived five minutes late due to using the toilet, and instead of handling it with professionalism, the Body Balance instructor publicly asked her to leave in front of the entire class. When she explained that she was attending to help with her back condition, the instructor dismissively said “I don’t know anything about back problems” and refused to offer any modifications or alternatives.
This was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. It is shocking that a fitness instructor running a class focused on flexibility and balance has no understanding of common physical conditions. This raises serious safety concerns—what if someone had an injury or required adaptations? Would they just be kicked out as well?
To be fair, the Pilates and Yoga instructors at Allander Leisure Centre have been excellent—supportive, knowledgeable, and accommodating to different fitness levels. Unfortunately, the experience in the Body Balance class has left my girlfriend feeling discouraged and hesitant to continue attending classes.
I filed a formal complaint, but the response was dismissive—no apology, no acknowledgment of the instructor’s poor handling of the situation, and no reassurance that staff will be better trained to accommodate members with health concerns.
If you have any injuries, mobility issues, or medical conditions, I would strongly recommend avoiding the Body Balance class. The instructor lacks basic knowledge and empathy, and management does not...
Read moreFor such a new facility, the cleanliness of the pool changing area leaves a lot to be desired. it is an absolute pig sty, with dirt and debris all over the floor, plus water everywhere you walk. Also half of the cubicles closed for no reason.
The overcrowding of this pool is worsened by the staff closing off sections for swimming club, then failing to remove the signs when they are finished. I ended up having a nasty altercation with another swimmer, who almost smashed into me 3 times, due to him swimming down the middle of the lane, despite me requesting he kindly leaves room for others. It could have been all avoided if the poolside staff had removed the cordon around the swimming club lanes, because two of these were actually free, and thus I could have been in one of those lanes instead. But the staff are always too busy having a chat with each other to see what’s really going on.
At the Allander - like other new leisure centres built in recent years - clearly no proper research has been done into their market when it was designed. As its pool is far too small for the amount of people who go there. I don’t want to use the term swimmers, as most are actually grown adults who go into the water to sit around or treat it like a...

One half of the toddler pool was sectioned off for swimming lessons which I knew about from phoning the Allander yesterday. Shortly after being in the toddler pool, the older grandson (7 years) went into the big pool with my husband only to be told when getting out that they couldn't go back into the toddler pool as there were too many people in it and using more than one of the pools was not allowed! Why on earth is there not some form of monitoring the number of bodies in the pool when paying ? If we had known the boys weren't allowed to use both pools we certainly would not have visited. We did all get back in after a few people had left but it really spoiled our visit. In addition, why on earth is there no signage for the toilets? I had to ask someone in the changing rooms to show me where they were, then later I also had to show a lady where they were as the toilets outwith the changing area were being cleaned. All in all, not a good outing. We won't be back as would rather pay the same money at the playdrome in Clydebank where kids can freely...
