Only 3 stars awarded due to outrageously high prices on food, which loses this soft play 2 stars!
Otherwise...
GREAT soft play!
GREAT outside area!
Fair/average entry prices for a garden center soft play.
Average drinks and crisps etc prices.
I understand that soft-plays attached to garden centres are "sometimes" going to be higher prices for food etc, however, in this soft play the menu/ hot food / cold food prices are up to around 45% higher than they should be to still make a decent profit.
Example £6.50 for a PLAIN jacket potato!!
(We charge £3.75 making around £3.60 profit from the markup.)
£4.00 for a bowl of chips!
(We charge £2.75 making around whopping £2.55 from the markup.)
beans on toast (one slice of bread) £5.00
We don't have this on our menu but if we did, it would be one of the cheapest options.
One of our businesses includes a soft play, (based in Berkshire) I know how much it costs to get our food in from our suppliers and the markup for our various the locations, businesses on our portfolio, and the very healthy profit we make on food and drinks. I personally wouldn't be able to sleep soundly at night charging these borderline criminally high prices.
Whilst sitting in the cafe area of the soft play I heard several people talk about the high prices in the soft play food area, one said that although the price of the food matches the garden center cafe, the quality of the food does not!! I can't compare as I haven't had the food in the on-site cafe but the soft play food looked average at best
There's also a person on the customer service till who has zero customer service skills. I gave my opinion on the prices on the menu and she was extremely rude with her reply. Maybe she chose these prices, otherwise I can't see why / how she could be defensive about a £6.50 jacket potato of which she clearly understands very little about food mark prices of jacket potato's from a supplier vs food mark ups. It's a shame the management have chosen such high prices for their food, otherwise it would have been 5 stars from myself, and I'm sure they'd have more diners in the...
Read moreQuite disappointed, we visited today for tulip tapping, my little girl was so excited with her bag packed with a scissor inside it for tulip cutting. But on arrival we get to know tulip tapping is closed for the season. There was no update about this on the website and tickets are non- refundable. They should update the correct information on the website on any change. Its a complete waste of our day.
As ,I am unable to reply to the response by the owner of Bury Lane Fun Barn.I am editing my initial review to add the response.
-First of all ,thanks for replying. I hope you also spend time editing your webpage with the up-to-date info as well. As on until the day of our visit we haven't seen any updates on tulip closures on the booking web page. I agree now as I have seen the information for tulip closing was made on Fb page in advance. But ,just to let you know that not everyone is on Fb or Insta. I am myself a computer engineer ,but don't have time to follow fb pages for each places we would like to visit. We opened the webpage and there wasn't anything there about tulips being closed and we made the booking.
So, please keep this in mind that the business webpage should always be updated with any changes. Suggestion, I have seen at many business that you can add on your webpage that your fb/Insta pages are always updated , so please check them regularly.
On ticketing, as we (6 families) arrived with 8 kids, Main reason tulip tapping, there wasn't any reason they will not play in the soft play center, so we have to buy the tickets. But if we knew there weren't any tulips (as we couldn't manage to get tickets for Norfolk tulips) we would have thought or planned differently.
I hope you understand how you feel when you plan for something and on a surprise find something else just due to lack of proper communication.
We been to fun barn 2 times before also and...
Read more2nd Review: This is my second review and visit of Bury Lane Farm. I had to come back and leave a second review because although the place is nice as mentioned below, we recently paid for an afternoon session until 4pm. The kids wanted Ice cream, so we said wait till near the end and we will get one on the way out.
To our surprise at 3.50pm they closed the ice cream counter. When I asked a member of staff why this was, she said they close at 4 and need time to pack things away
However, number 1, my reciept said my session ended at 4pm which I felt robbed off the last ten minutes. I said to the lady ok, but why is there no sign to state that ten minutes before closing time Ice creams will no longer be available and you have to leave.
She said she would ask the staff behind the Ice cream cart if they still had Ice cream available, I waited 5 minutes for her to say no. The kids were not very happy as you can imagine. It was very disappointing that there was not even a sign or that it did not state this on the booking confirmation. Not great customer service.
1st Visit/Review: Wonderful place, still yet to fully explore all areas on site. Attended a kids birth party, soft play indoors and a huge sandpit outside .
Food available to order. Tiny table's/seating but still ok.
There is also a garden centre onsite and a restaurant that I must visit on the next trip.
Staff in play area was o.k. Toilets were fairly clean. Food was ok/pleasant,
A lovely day out,...
