Master Debonair's lack of care & customer service really caused me a major problem on my wedding day.

I recommend you read this review of MD very carefully prior to using this company for a wedding. I honestly don’t enjoy writing this and want to be honest about the experience. I would not wish anyone else to suffer the issues I had.

MD did attempt to resolve the matter after the event, however £100 of gift vouchers after a very costly error on their part, I felt was poor and ultimately a take it or leave it, I left it.

So to start, there were many things I liked about MD. They are independent, have great style and were helpful in store.

Master Debonair was recommended to me from my extensive network in the local area. I also love to support local independent businesses whenever I can.

I drove over 40 miles to visit their store. I figured it was important to get the right fit.

This information is critical. I spent quite some time in the store trying on jackets and pants, we settled on a size and fit.

We chose two, three piece suits. We nearly took one for my son also but we managed to buy the exact same one online for literally a third of the price offered in Master Debonair. Like many of the reviews here state, cheap they are not.

Once items were chosen, some of the items were not in stock, so I couldn’t take it all there and then. So a couple of weeks later and after paying the £440+ bill we went to collect the items. Obviously another 80+ mile round trip.

On the second arrival they were busy and then seemed to struggle to find the items we had bought but eventually emerged with them, all bagged up. I purchased two ties also which cost a further £30. So the bill is now £470.

My personal error here was not double checking everything, but having already tried everything on essentially I saw no need to do so. Unfortunately I was wrong.

On the afternoon of the wedding day I discovered my suit pants were the wrong size. A full size too small. I couldn’t properly fasten them.

I tried to call the store which was open, I might add. A useless answer phone.

Essentially Master Debonair has a centralised call system that doesn’t accept calls on weekends. This is nuts for a company specialising in Weddings.

We had two options on numbers. Neither responded.

We had one chance at a solution (Which was to pay a taxi to deliver the correct pants) and without being able to contact them that chance was gone.

So the result was having to wear a pair of pants which was far too small. It was of course uncomfortable all day long, but more so It ruined many of the photos and that was really upsetting.

Solutions

MD in fairness spoke to me afterwards, they admitted their error.

Thing is, sending me the right pair of pants a few days after the event is hardly the point now is it. They also offered me £100 in store credit as compensation. The gesture was fine but I spent £470 on something that I could have had half the bill online with a better result.

I’d made several suggestions such as the entire bill being refunded which would have at least been at least serious sorry.

£100 in credit is maybe a maximum £50 in reduced profit. I felt this was more or less an insult. The time & effort alone had cost me far more than £50.

So here’s a company who clearly often deal with weddings but felt their profit margin more important than customer perception.

Just found this place through a recommendation from another shop in the same trade.

Superb selection of really stylish clothes in loads of different sizes, I needed BIG and they could sort me out no problems. Everything was reasonably priced, no shocks at the tills, exceptional range of the gear you want at a price you're prepared to pay.

However, the one thing that I found shocking, the thing which we are still talking about hours later is actually the experience when shopping there.

We called before going over and straight away the vibes were perfect, this was only further displayed by the exceptionally knowledgeable staff who couldnt have been more friendly, skilled, attentive and decent.

Credit where credit is due, honestly, without question or hesitation this place is absolutely superb. This review is as a honest customer and I hope the owner shares it with the team. Excellent experience all round and obviously, i'll be back with me mates who would love the place...

First time visiting the shop after being recommended by a dear friend. The moment I entered the shop I was greeted by Ryan, who took me to the suit section discussed some options and led me to try a few on without feeling pressured. When he returned I was offered suggestions and advice on what matched and sizing options then fitting and selection. I felt looked after, very cared for and the advice was sound. I am going back for some suggested alterations to the cuffs later as they were slightly to long.
