We had high hopes for this shop and were expecting to find lots of treasure but sadly, left very disappointed after travelling to the area specifically to visit . I won't lie, I am so glad I wasn't bought gift vouchers for my birthday as a relative had intended, as I wouldn't have been able to spend them, but that was because nothing appealed to me personally when I visited.
We used to visit the sister shop in Fareham a lot when it was open and were expecting the same high-quality level of stock / speciality vintage traders at the main shop.
There are a lot of different traders and SOME are clearly very good at what they do / have an incredible eye but there was also a lot of what I would personally call 'modern junk' - now, I understand you have to appeal to all but this store, sadly felt more like an overpriced under cover car boot sale, than an antique / vintage shop as we were led to believe online.
The Cafe - The service was incredibly slow, but it was somewhat busy, and it did seem like it was all hands to the deck, shall we say. The coffee, however, was nice and a good temperature. The staff were all very friendly to me, but I did hear muttering of "moaning customers at table .." whilst waiting to be served. Which was a little off-putting. After almost 10 minutes of waiting for a black coffee and a pot of tea, my partner was also unimpressed and commented how fortunate we were, that we hadn't ordered food.
Toilets - It might also be worth noting that there are no disabled toilets on site, and that the customer toilets / baby changing facilities are up a flight of stairs.
Parking - lots of parking available.
After years and years of numerous people suggesting I visit, I can finally say I've visited the Southampton store I can say I have but probably wouldn't again...
Read moreThis is a huge warehouse of collectables and odds and ends. We weren't expecting much as we tend to buy higher value antiques and this place has a wider range of lower end collectables and antiques. Having said that we ended up spending a bit on a variety of very attractive and interesting things. And access is excellent. As for the coffee shop, we only had a brief stop. Nice friendly staff both in the café and at the main till were very welcoming though. It's certainly worth a stop for the casual browser and collector of oddities. My partner is a wheelchair user and getting around was easy. We were able to look into every single stall though some were more tightly packed than others. Sadly a minus is there is no wheelchair or disabled accessible toilet despite the general...
Read moreThey placed a stack of vinyls right behind the China and porcelain so when my partner was going through the vinyls he accidentally broke one bowl in a set of 4. He apologised to them . They said their policy is we should pay for it which is fair enough so they charged him for the price of all 4 and left the other 3 on the shelf. It wasn’t until I asked him to go back and speak to them if he can take the rest that they gave him the rest but they didn’t wrap them like other purchases so they were obviously upset that we stopped them from reselling something we have already paid for. I love this place and I have been going for years but today’s experience really affected me badly and I think the staff need to work on their customer...
