On 2/02/2021 I went to Aldi's located at 2100 Romig Road in Akron Ohio (store #35). While in the deli section as I was turning around to go back to my cart the bottom of my jeans got stuck on a piece of metal shard sticking out from the bottom of the refrigerated deli section. In order to break my fall I manage to yank my leg back where it then completely ripped the bottom of my jeans. I could have fallen or worse yet my leg could have been scrapped or cut open by this metal shard sticking out from their deli fridge. I proceed to notify the manager (Stacie), were she then took a picture of my torn Eddie Bauer's as well as the metal shard that got caught in my jeans. She noted my name and phone#, telling me I'd get a call the day after from the supervisor. Five days later and I've yet to receive a call. On 2/03/2021 I try calling Aldi's but the automated message redirects you to "visit their website" instead. I do as the recording instructs me to do and send Aldi's an email, 48 hour's later and no response either. Later that day I go to Aldi's to see if the supervisor is in but the supervisor is not on site so I speak with manager Stacie again, letting her know I haven't received a call, I ask if there's any update from the supervisor since I never received a call, I let Stacie know that the jeans I was wearing which were literally ripped up by Aldi's were Eddie Bauer jeans, at one time costing me $59. Manager Stacie let's me know (in front of a bunch of customers) that Aldi's will ask me to provide a receipt for my jeans cause after all they could be "5 years old, also they may have already been riped prior to February 1st". I ask the manager if the deli refrigerator was repaired since this is hazardous to any customer or even any employee and I was told that it wasn't fixed and that in fact "they're debating whether to get it fixed right now since they'll be doing some renovations in a few days or weeks. I shop at Aldi's at least 2 to 3 times a week and it's a shame they'll be loosing more than the $59 I lost with my Eddie Bauer jeans. If I break something at Aldi's or any store, trust and believe, I will be paying for it and the same should be expected with Aldi's or any store, if you go into the store and something belonging to you is broken through no fault of your own but the store's then the right thing to do is to reimburse the customer and not be...
Read moreSpecific store review - this store is near a deserted shopping area, and a little bit off the road, up a hill. The roads in the area are pretty cracked. The biggest problem with this location is that there is almost only one cashier (that's true for many Aldis) and you can end up in long wait lines (last time it was a 10 minute wait just to checkout for a couple of items). The selection is somewhat limited, one of the smaller Aldis. The cashier who is usually there when I'm there is pretty rude - she puts on a very fake front of friendliness but says very condescending and rude things. If you happen to be in the area anyway, stopping in to get some milk and produce can save you a few bucks, but if you end up with a long wait, the savings may not be worth stopping in.
Aldi has some decent prices (not all prices are great) but it takes some shopping hassle to get them. The best deals are on milk - save about $1 off other locations - and produce, but the produce also does not seem as fresh. The fruit seems to go bad quicker than when I buy at other stores, so it's a tradeoff. All the food items are unique Aldi brands so it's very hard to know if something is going to taste good or not - on average the items are fine. The biggest problem is the extra time you have to spend, which negates some of the savings - long wait lines are common as there is only one cashier and you get people who load up carts. You have to bring in your own bags and do your own bagging which takes extra time. And, you have to put a quarter in the shopping cart so remember to have a quarter with you - you get it back, but you have to then wheel the cart back up to the store. Figure 5-10 minutes extra shopping time, so depending on how much you value your time, your cost savings can be ruined by...
