I have 3 kids between the age of 2 and 8. We've been to Skate Plex for parties twice on Saturday afternoons (1-3). The first time was in September, the second today.
Last time, I was able to get on the floor with my kids and help them, without skates, no problem. It was great. That experience alone is why this is a 2 star and not a one star review.
This time, I intentionally did not wear socks, expecting that I'd not be skating but would do the same thing as last time. Instead, I was told, quite rudely, upon entering that "NO ONE is allowed on 'our floor' without skates."
Now, I'm a mom. I understand that there are rules. I get it. But I have small children that are learning a new skill. I'd like to have been able to actually help them instead of just consoling them and drying their tears every time they came off the floor.
This policy needs to be reviewed. Parents should be able to help their children without being...
Read moreSeems to be a teen drop off spot for parents who don't want to watch their kids. The floor was like skating on a flat tire. Very bumpy and slippery. AC was only in one real spot which didn't cool evenly. The staff was super nice. It was weird not having people with a whistle to help stop some behavior on the floor except to do the limbo. Lots of kids getting ran down by experienced skaters. A couple families struggling to teach their kids even left after a very short time. Overall for what it is it's okay. No fights. No problems. Do need to fix the locks on the bathroom door in the ladies room and add one to the handicap stall, please. Update: still no handicap door or latch. Floor is still a mess. Boys just bully kids on the floor. Staff does nothing but watch and sometimes laughs. It's a ridiculous place now that is no longer family friendly. Kids in the lot smoking (not just cigarettes), making out, and cussing out adults. It's...
Read moreThe floor needed cleaning BAD, like I don't think that I've skated at any place that even comes close to the dust content this place had.
The grip was nonexistent, and my skates are built to have considerable amounts of traction, which they simply didn't. Many other skaters were obviously having difficulty as well.
This was amplified from the fog machine. They create a lot of particulate on the floor and make it VERY slippery from the fine powder left after the fog settles out of the air.
The patrons were all friendly and it seemed well staffed.
The rub here is that this is a SKATING rink.. and people go to rinks in hopes to skate on a good surface, that is well maintained, clean and provides sound footing so you won't slip out from normal strides.
I'd be happy to offer helpful information if they are keen on improving...
