We would have had a great time 7/5/21 but the stupidity of the staff and upper management believe is an indoor pool you have to close it for lightning in miles away it's an indoor pool so that you can swim when the weather is bad there is a lifeguard there where is classes extremely rude it would be nice if they would hire some people that are professionals and not kids pretending to be grown up. The facility is great the people operating it need to work on it. I have researched this there is zero lightning strikes on indoor pools or buildings of indoor pools the safety issue is when there's lightning in the area you don't run people out of the building into the lightning if this continues I'm going to push for this building in Rick Center to be shut down due to safety CHARLOTTE, NC (Theoden Janes/The Charlotte Observer) - So the other day, it happened again: I was swimming inside the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in uptown Charlotte, more than halfway through my workout, when all the lifeguards blew their whistles at once.

But after my 12th (13th? 14th? I've lost count) interrupted swim this year due to a storm, I decided to try to answer a question that neither a remarkable number of phone calls nor the Internet – believe it or not – wasn't definitively able to: Can you really get struck by lightning while swimming in an indoor pool?

Before we go down this rabbit hole, I should remind you that you absolutely can be injured (or killed) by lightning while indoors. The CDC says about one-third of lightning-strike injuries occur indoors, and in fact, the very first person I talked to about this story – WBTV meteorologist Al Conklin – told me his wife's cousin was killed while talking on a landline phone in the 1960s.

There are three main ways lightning enters structures, the National Weather Service cautions on its National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration website: a direct strike; through wires or pipes that extend outside the structure; and through the ground. This place is a joke. I was given passes 10 minutes after getting here because a kid pooped in pool. I don't know the exact date i gaven the pass. But Okay no big deal I'll come back. So I came back today Aug 18 2024. I'm told they can't honor my passes. Because 1) no expiration date was written & 2) no reason was written on it. How can I control what they did or didn't write on the pass? I can't but whatever I paid the $5 per person $15 total for my family. I got in the pool & they immediately call for adult swim. Great! Now I get to fight a toddler who just got in the water & has to get out. It's fine I get it. It's only 10 minutes but they I'm feeding my toddler grapes & get in trouble for eating in the pool area?? The last time I was there maybe 2 months prior people had whole pizzas being delivered? Whole families eating entire meals in the pool area. So I wasn't even there an hour & I'm ready to leave. Don’t get me wrong, the facilities are great! Especially the pool for the kids. I’ve been coming here ever since I was a baby and always loved the pool! Today, I was with my family, including my niece. When she was leaving, she was waving bye to the manager she knows (like I said we have been coming here for over 20 years), and she hit her head on the metal door frame hard. While I was checking on her, I turn around to see the girl at the front desk LAUGHING. My niece is on the ground in PAIN. Of course I was angry and I yelled saying I don’t appreciate her laughing.
