So, Umi Sushi. Let's take this as a Pro/Con approach.
TLDR version: Good quality service if a disappointment on in stock menu selection. May update to five stars in the future if I gave a better experience, or get a good answer on Mackerel.
Cons:
At the time, they were out of Mackerel, or just did not stock it. It was unclear which and no satisfactory explanation was forthcoming.
In place of mackerel I ordered Ikura (salmon roe) and perhaps I wasn't clear enough but I was given acutal salmon, not the eggs. Easy mistake to make, but the staff didn't seek to clarify until the wrong dish was served.
Cheap chopsticks. And plastic bowls.
No small dish to rest chopsticks on and mix wasabi and soysauce in.
Neutral:
Bit of a wait on the remake for my nigiri, that went in right before a run on the sushi bar, so several 30 piece orders went out before me. And due to this the wrapping of the nigiri was sloppy (pictured).
Pro:
Joel my waiter was polite and took care of my needs. My issues with the sushi order were not with him.
The ramen was utterly excellent in every way. The Miso Ramen (pork) is pictured and I do highly recommend this even if you don't generally dig on the hog. This was prepared in a way that was uncompromisingly Japanese and makes no accommodations for a Texan palate complete with a whole halved soft boiled egg. The noodles were the smaller thin kinky egg noodles and not udon.
The salmon Roe, once I got it was light and fresh, good flavor and lack of fishy smell despite the sloppy wrapping.
The manager greeted me at the door and was fabulously polite in a traditionally Japanese fashion. She should be commended.
Actual glasses for water!
The mochi was fabulous, they offer strawberry, green tea, and mango.
Busy as hell at 1pm on a Tuesday, the crowds know what's up,...
Read moreOne of the best, authentic Japanese sushi restaurants outside of Japan that I have eaten at and with very reasonable prices. We started off with the edamame. The boiled soy beans were firm, hot, and a little salty, just I always get when I'm in Japan. We had ramen and sushi (the lunch special - 3 rolls). The noodles were firm and the broth was very tasty. The chashuu (roasted pork) in the ramen was very delicious. We also were able to sample the OMG salmon and NY steak (used on the Cowboy roll). The OMG salmon was very good. (If you like sashimi, then ask the chef to sear it less.) This was one of my favorite dishes here. The NY steak was very tender and had a very flavorful sauce. We finished off our meal with hot Oolong tea and tempura fried bananas with honey and chocolate syrup. (Unfortunately, we had to wait for the bananas, but they were very apologetic.) The bananas were crispy outside and hot and soft on the inside. It was only lightly sweet so it was not too sweet as many American desserts are. The wait staff were very friendly, attentive, and checked on us several times to give us refills and to see if we needed anything else. The sushi chef took the time to answer questions and even followed up by coming by our table to see how we liked everything. I would strongly recommend giving this...
Read moreAte food from here last night, it was my birthday so I’ve been in the mood for sushi and that’s why we picked this place. The decision to order for takeout was mine, so placed the order through DoorDash since that’s one of the apps they use (NEVER AGAIN). When we went there to pickup the food the waitress/hostess was super nice and the restaurant itself looked nice, but the man they came up after was not so pleasant (I think the owner). I left my phone in the car bcz all we had to do is pickup the food and go but the man refused to go by my name and demanded to see my phone so he could see what was ordered. I understand it was probably to check especially if your a runner/delivery person but it was my order. Anyway I went back to the car got my phone and finally got my order. All in all the food was pretty good, we got a California roll, Tiger roll, Shrimp Siu Mai, Edamame, Chicken Teriyaki (which is a large meat portion, not enough rice but can be split for two) and that comes with Miso soup and a salad and we got a tempura fried cheesecake (it was bland no flavor, never again). This is a place we will go back to mainly bcz of the location but hopefully the service with management...
