The Pet Emporium — Local services in Ann Arbor

We started coming to the Pet Emporium about 4 years ago (maybe more) after the previous local pet supply place we'd frequented for years really lost their touch and service went down the tubes.

Pet Emporium's got everything we need for our cats and dog, the staff really know their products and are very helpful to everyone who comes in. I don't know how their prices compare to other stores like Petco or PetSmart, but supporting local stores like this one is worth whatever price difference there may be, and you also get a 'frequent buyer' card that nets you money off when you buy a certain dollar amount of product.

My partner and I have an adult bearded dragon to whom we occasionally feed crickets. It seems silly, but out of all the places we've got crickets in the past, the crickets from here seem happiest and healthiest. We have arrived at this conclusion because they are always absurdly vocal. Whenever we get crickets for the lizard, it always takes her a few days to get them all (perhaps their ability to hide and evade the lizard is a testament to their health, too?), so our apartment is filled with cricket chirping for days, which we find charming. Big box pet supply stores sell live animals kept in substandard conditions, but animal-free cat and dog supply pet stores usually don't carry equipment for exotics. So what's a discerning herper to do? Head to Pet Emporium for their frozen rodent needs.

They also carry a wide range of cat and dog foods, toys, and accessories. Selections tend toward the upscale and boutique.

My only complaint? No clumping cat litters, so this can't be a one stop shop for all your feline friend desires unless she likes newspaper pellets.
