For a new car purchase, be prepared for an up sale on a warranty and service plan. This is true for most dealerships.
Let's face it, modern cars have some extremely expensive electronics that are costly to repair and not DIY friendly. So, this type of protection does make since.
Do your homework. Get a quote from Flood Ford or Granger Ford online for the model you are shopping for. When you're in the Finance Manager's office verify whether you are signing for a third-party service contract or Ford's.
The Good
The sales staff was great. Very professional. I was able to book my test drive in advance. I had most of my questions answered prior to arriving for the test drive. I worked with Michele via email. She gave me the out the door price for the vehicle, which does not include the warranty and service plan add ons. Think of those as a separate purchase.
There were no hidden or fake fees. Though their document fee is on the higher side at $799. NC does have some of the highest doc fees in the country and the fee here is a bit above the state average. Even with that, I still saved at least $2,000 compared to MSRP.
I scheduled the test drive for the next day. It's a bit odd having the salesman riding along for a test drive, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
The salesman, "Ducky", was fantastic. He got my Ford Pass and phone set up to work with the truck. I never felt pressured or rushed during the test drive or sales process.
The finance manager, Ken, asked about financing. I gave him the rate I was given by the credit union. He did check, but he couldn't match it. There was no pressure to finance through Crossroads. We had great conversations throughout the signing process.
The signing process is all electronic. There are just a few papers for the state that are signed in ink. Getting the thumb drive at the end with all the documents makes life easier than having a folder full of papers.
When I got the truck home, I noted a small tear in upholstery of the door. I sent them a picture. It took a few days to get the repair scheduled, but they fixed it in one day and it looks great.
The Bad
Now this is true for many dealers. Let's face it, they're in business to make a profit and that includes profiting on the service plans and warranty service contracts. But we have to be reasonable here.
I was told by the Finance Manager that I was getting a deal at $4,500 for 72 months/50,000 miles for both the extended warranty and service plan. Full price would have been $6,600!!!!
I signed.
Surfing a Ford Ranger forum, I found out they had gotten the better of me.
I was able to get 84 months/85,000 miles with additional upgrades added from Granger Ford for $3,860 for both contracts. These are not third-party plans. These are the same Ford plans valid at any Ford Dealer Service Center.
I was able to save over $600 with an additional year and 35,000 miles of coverage compared to the "deal" I was getting. And, during this whole post-purchase process, I found that the extended warranty service contract I had signed was for a third-party vendor not Ford. Every brochure I was shown in the Finance Manager's office for these plans were brochures for the Ford plans, not some third party.
Crossroads ended up swapping my plan over to the better one. So, my contracts stayed...
Read moreMy wife and I just went through a whole experience buying our latest vehicle. We went to at least 10 dealerships in the area (up and down 64, and along 15-501 in Durham) and of those our experience with Crossroads was far and away the best.
The dealership itself is absolutely huge and there are loads of vehicles in stock inside, that you'll be able to sit in and test out. As in, you can drive the cars inside the dealership out for a test drive. Flashy? Maybe. But a very cool experience as opposed to hoofing it around a lot. (Eat your heart out, car vending machines.)
There were plenty of vehicles at multiple trim levels in stock based on the lot when we made our purchase (November 2023).
If you've got or want to buy an EV, there are charging stations outside and a diner inside so you can grab a bite while you charge up (I can't vouch for the food... yet).
As for the sales process, our salesperson, Jose, was patient and courteous, never pressured us, listened to both of our needs and wants and concerns, and was down to let us test drive anything and everything. He was definitely the most human of any car salesperson I've spoken with lately (again, 10+ dealerships), and seemed to genuinely care that we ended up in the right vehicle for us.
We ultimately - thanks to some indecision on our part - test drove the car we ended up purchasing 3 times; Jose never seemed annoyed or impatient.
In the interest of full transparency, when we ended up making the purchase we had what we considered a subpar experience with the finance team due to some mutual confusion (we ended up closing the deal late in the day and late in the month, so maybe an earlier time would have made the process easier). We ended up with a good rate and a good price, but we expressed a bit of concern with the process to the Customer Experience Coordinator, Bonnie, who looked into it right away.
To make a not-so-long story even shorter, Crossroads stepped up and after a conversation with the GM, Scott, I can vouch that the team really does hold themselves to a high standard of customer satisfaction.
I've yet to visit the dealership for service but based on our sales experience I fully anticipate a long and happy...
Read moreMy 2nd Review of CFoA: 2025: This is our 3rd vehicle from Crossroads Ford of Apex. I ordered a 2025 Dark Horse, which had to be special ordered. Was given a timeline, spec details, and pricing. Everything happened as communicated and the process was nearly flawless, which let me enjoy the experience of receiving this beautiful machine. Sales guy, Chris Shaw, was great. He gave me updates on it's status, even when he wasn't working. The final week he was on vacation and still gave me updates and coordinated pictures to be taken. Above and beyond. I would recommend Crossroads and certainly Chris Shaw.
2021:Our Ford Edge gears seemed to have had issues and needed to be replaced. 2nd and 3rd gear would slip. It would feel like we were rear ended when it slipped. I believe in being fair: First, we had issues with the gears (slipping) a year after purchase. We have less than 50k miles. The engine should have ZERO issues. Disappointed that it did have an issue.
Second, we were months past our car warranty expiration. Mainly due to COVID, we hadn't driven much in the past year. And no one ever called to extend car warranty (I am REALLY kidding. When didn't someone call??!) Crossroads Ford of Apex went above and beyond to honor our loyalty (bought 2 Fords within the same year from same dealership). They honored warranty work and went to bat for us with corporate. We paid for the labor.
The vehicle has since performed beautifully. Seems to be quality work. Vehicle was returned to us in the same condition as we gave it to them. No scuffs, marks or other issues.
The dealership also loaned us a vehicle for the time they had our vehicle, which was SO helpful. I'd have hated to be down a car.
Conclusion: Dislike that a new vehicle had a 'defective' gear/engine issue, but the dealership and corporate went the extra mile to make it right....
