Itâs always a joy to connect with someone with whom so much resonates. We drove away from Moonbow glowing and recounting our favorite moments from our time there. Lloyd is an absolute joy as an instructor - warmly welcoming, deeply kind, filled with a broad scope of archery experience which he generously shares... he made the experience accessible and fun while leaving room for us to discover the deeper lessons that archery has to offer. Like any master of a craft, it's clear that his practice of archery reflects back into his life, and vice versa. It was such an honor to learn from him, and my boyfriend and I were hugely blessed by our experience.
On a practical level, we arrived, were welcomed in to the hybrid indoor/outdoor space that Moonbow is operating out of during these colder months (it was a chilly day, but Lloyd put on a heater which made it comfortable), and we were given a short orientation to the equipment we'd be using. Lloyd makes everything feel low-stakes and easy. I'd never shot a bow before, but he walked me through it step by step. Lloyd offered pointers and answered questions whenever we had them, and I loved his instinctive style of "aiming from the heart." We broke for tea half way through our session, had a great chat, and when we resumed, we tried other bows and further distances. By the end, I'm guessing I'd loosed well over a hundred arrows, and felt like I had a good handle on the basics of archery.
When you book an experience like this, you hope it's going to be a good one, and worth the time and money. For us, it was more than worth it. This experience extended beyond, into the category of really special and memorable. We hope to...
Read moreI have been coming to Sherwood for almost 4 years now, and there are many things that I love about Moonbow Archery. The first is the intention⌠I absolutely love the overarching practice here of âinstinctive archeryâ where we simply âaim from the heartâ. It really speaks to the way that I like to be in the world, and makes it almost like a yoga practice for me⌠between that and noticing the divinatory nature of my arrow groupings on any given day⌠it has me ask questions about where Iâm at, without judgment. I also love that it feels like a very supportive little community. There is no feeling of pressure or competition, and so I can relax and let myself learn things in my own slow and organic way⌠Lloyd is also a wonderful and patient teacher who is just full of wisdom, joy and hope. The more experienced archers who come in have also been very helpful in offering tips for developing my technique⌠and lastly, aside from the simple satisfaction of shooting an arrow and hearing it thwack into the target, I also love that when I draw back my bow and shoot the arrows, outside in the forest with the trees and the fresh air, it really feels like Iâm connecting to something ancient and ancestral, which feels like an important thingâŚ. I always leave feeling invigorated with a smile...
Read moreWe had an amazing experience at the archery range during our vacation, thanks to our instructor, Lloyd. We booked a private lesson for two adults and one child, and from start to finish, it was outstanding. Lloyd was not only excellent in his teaching but also placed a strong emphasis on safety, which made us feel comfortable and confident throughout the session.
He was especially wonderful with the child, keeping him engaged and boosting his confidence as he learned this new skill. Lloydâs passion for archery and its history really shone through, making him a fantastic ambassador for the sport. Communication with Lloyd was a breeze, and setting up the lesson was smooth and easy. We hope to return in the future and would highly recommend this experience to anyone, especially families looking for a fun and...
