My first time visiting Phoenix Next Games, accompanied with my son. This is not a genre I am familiar with. The store is full of figurines for a variety of games people invest in, such as D&D. There are a variety of tools available for sale for those who decorate and paint figurines of various sizes. There are a wide variety of boxed games (I assume board games), and I also noticed a section of supplies for older game consoles, such as Nintendo 64 controllers or an xbox360 power supply. There are several tables, and a rack of games available for rent so they can be played at those tables.
The real stars of the store are the workers. There were two there when we visited, and a family was there, as their young boy was gifted several trading cards. It was wonderful to be a fly in the room as the workers patiently talked about the quality of the cards, and about the differences between the various colors, and ways that he might want to protect and preserve the cards (I want to note here that a parent suggested purchasing a protector box, this was not a push sale from the workers). Athens is a small town that has a pretty good size University within its bounds, and it is great that a shop like this is here.
When we left, my son mentioned he could check online to see if the items he liked are less expensive. I agreed they may be less expensive, but sometimes it is better to pay a little more so local shops with knowledgeable workers are able to stay in towns like this one for as long...
Read moreThe Phoenix Nest is a top notch gaming store with all the accoutrements the modern tabletop, RPG and card gamer could ask for. Though despite being well-stocked, and well laid-out it is the people that make this establishment truly shine; the individual gaming communities are welcoming and friendly and always willing to go the extra mile for curious folks at any experience level. Additionally, the owners of the Phoenix Nest are as equally accommodating and helpful as the communities that inhabit their store. In my years of gaming at the 'Nest it is this welcoming atmosphere that has turned this place into more than just a shop but a home away from home and always a bright...
Read moreWe found the place easily, just of Rt 56. Greeted as soon as we stepped in the shop. We are from Dayton and were staying at Lake Hope and found ourselves in need of more Reaper Bones and paints to work on during the evening. We liked the owner right off, nice guy. Shop had a full line of Citadel Paints and some Warhammer models. Also had Reaper Bones and D & D wiz kids. He also sells Magic cards and supplies for the cards and other gaming needs. Prices were better on a lot of stuff than in Dayton. We look forward to next year to see how he is...
