We rented 3 kayaks on a day that it rained. I called several times to see about changing my day. I was unable to reach anyone but did leave a message. I was able with no hassle to change my reservation to the next day. Although things were a bit chaotic that morning as no one was at the trailer check in and although there was a number to call, we didn’t have cell service there so had to drive to the other location down the road to the main office. We were not the only family waiting. This was a bit odd we thought. They quickly did get us our Kayaks and sent us on the river with no instructions but the river pretty much took us where we needed to go. Things were also well marked on the shore at the end. Overall we did have a really good time. We had never kayaked before this only canoed. The Au Train has many natural obstacles to navigate which made it lots of fun. There were also a couple places you could beach the kayak and rest if desired. We took our time and spent about 2-3 hours on the river. We were there mid July, lots of lily pads were blooming....

as expected after reading the great reviews about this place, we had a great experience with Northwoods Canoe and Kayak Rental! we kayaked here during a camping trip in the UP.
just a warning about bugs whilst on the river—we had bug spray but there were still some biting flies (although they mostly circled you and only occasionally bit) but it was mainly small gnats that were most prevalent. there are porta potties at the parking area if needed.
we were the only two people that had booked the time so we just parked, went to check in, signed some waivers on the iPad, and then a bus came to pick us up, brought the kayaks down for us, and we were off! it rained a bit but we still had a wonderful time. the river/scenery is beautiful and a breeze to kayak on. it took us around 3 hours but you can go as slow or as fast as you like! thanks for the excellent service...
Read moreOur party of 4 chose to get 2 double seater kayaks for our bridge to bridge trip. The attendant was very kind and helpful. He made sure that our kayaks were in good working condition and assisted us getting in and launched us on our way. The AuTrain River is beautiful. Very clean and no more than 4 feet deep in some spots. Most was 2-3 feet deep. The current is slow the whole way...just right for a relaxing afternoon. There are periodic sandy "beaches" along the way where you get out and stretch a bit and get a drink or snack to eat if you brought anything along with you. The natural beauty of the river is what makes this trip worthy of 5 stars. The trip is about 3 hours long with an occasional...
