Northwoods Outpost — Restaurant in Au Train Township

We stopped here for the first time in Early August, '24, to grab an ice cream & decided we needed to try the pasties, too. Oh. My. Goodness!!! The pasties were SOO DELICIOUS! Our daughter was getting married on Labor day weekend & she & her now husband, enjoyed them so much that they asked me to go back inside with them to see if they could do 30 pasties for their small, intimate wedding on Lake Superior. Pam, Erin's mom, makes all the pasties for this long-standing family business. Not only did she agree to make the pasties, but included a heart, shaped from the crust on top of them! That sweet, unexpected little extra REALLY helped make the day for not only the bride & groom, but ALL of the guests! Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, commented on how amazing the pasties tasted & how precious the heart on top was! We did have a couple that were 1st time pasty eaters & now, they're hooked! We're happy they got the best their 1st time! The service, the food (amazing salads & baked treats, too) and the atmosphere is AWESOME! Thanks SO MUCH Pam, for the hot, flakey crusts, and oh so delicious insides of the pasties and thank you so much for your added special touch for our daughter's wedding! It was truly appreciated!!! We can't wait to stop in again on...

This is such a hidden gem in the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula! We stayed at the Reel Inn Lodge and we could walk here, and it’s close to the beach and the Au Train River! We ordered pizza and cheese sticks for dinner for 17 people and we loved the selection of pizza! We loved the meat pizza and the options for vegetarians were amazing! Also, don’t sleep on the pizza with the Alfredo sauce! The next day we walked there to get ice cream and we go pasties to take home and freeze for a later date! (Cannot wait to eat these!) The store also sells beer and other upper peninsula items! The customer service was amazing each time and we were greeted with a smile! Definitely will be back when we are in the Upper...

Perfect pizza. Perfect pasties. Perfect ice cream. Perfect atmosphere.

Quickly learned that while visiting Munising for a few days that the only thing to eat here is pizza, pasties, and ice cream. Oh, and there is no such thing as sit down dining! Well, still found the best of it at this place. Excellent little place. Pizza was superb. Right amount of everything. Pasties, excellent. Also the place I learned they are called past-ees. Not paste-ies. Whatever, it was great.

The only issue…. My 9 year old had to try 5 different flavors of ice cream before settling on the right one for him.
