Autrain Motel — Hotel in Au Train Township

Was looking for an overnight stop for weekend road trip. This facility came up with what appeared to be what we needed with acceptable reviews. I’m not sure who is writing the reviews but when we arrived it was not as presented. . I expected dated but clean. The mattress was filthy with no sheets, the ceiling was severely damaged with large water stains and falling down. The air duct/vent next to the bed was packed with what, I clearly don’t know.. I spoke with the host who said I’m sorry, we’ve had those complaints before but…nothing I can do. Needless to say I slept...

We usually stay here everytime we come up but others were faster this year. However, this motel may be small to some it is perfect for us. Very convenient location close to Lake Superior, Autrain River and the gas station/grocery. The previous owners were amazing people and the current owner is as well. We now know that others have found this gem so we need to book well ahead of time. Terrible experience. We noticed immediately that there was a water leak in the bathroom. When I told the clerk, he said that the room was just cleaned/mopped. But the water was still on the floor the next evening - even the carpet was moist. I wanted to see about changing rooms, but the clerks close up at 8 p.m. The room seemed clean but there was a huge rip in the carpet, the wall-mounted heater was rusty and crusty.
