I had the most pleasant experience at this AMC of my life; I wish this were an exaggeration, but it’s not. I’d like to take the time to thank the staff of AMC Shirlington for making the environment so accessible and for not making me feel any different for needing accommodations. I’m a Deaf woman, and I’ve amassed probably a lifetime’s worth of free tickets over the years, because there’s always at least one issue, and typically several issues, with the captioning devices. I have genuinely never been able to sit and enjoy a whole movie at a theater without some sort of issue (and for those proponents of open captioning, yes it’s wonderful, but those movie times are always inconvenient and not at date-appropriate times!!). I walked in, the area was very well lit, and the employee I spoke to immediately handed me a captioning device when I asked for one, and he even made sure to set it up for me/the theater I was going into. He had no trouble/inexperience, and the entire thing took less than one minute. I was able to return to my date WITH my accommodations, and didn’t feel like a whole spectacle having to struggle. I may have been imagining this, but when I came to return the captioning device after the movie, I think the employee was orienting towards me and making an effort to speak clearly, because I understood he asked if I enjoyed the movie and if the captioning device was okay. Other than that, the theater itself was spotless. I don’t know how, but never have I walked into an AMC and not seen popcorn on the floor or various debris. The seats reclined which was a very pleasant surprise! The captioning device stayed charged the entirety of the movie, and perfectly synced with the dialogue. I will 100% be returning here to see movies in the future, and given that it’s not too far from the NOMA/Gallaudet area, I encourage my fellow Deafies to try...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I absolutely love seeing movies at this quaint little theatre! It's one of my favorite "happy place" escapes from the crowded city hustle and bustle. With plenty of unique restaurants in short walking distance, shirlington is the perfect place for an intimate dinner and movie date. It's so easy to order tickets and choose your seats in advance online, then just show up, grab your beverages and popcorn, and head into your movie! The bar has a perfect variety of beers for the craft and domestic tastes, as well as plenty of both red and white wine selections for those who enjoy a glass of wine with their movie. The theatre also offers touch screen fountain drink machines which allow you to create your own custom fountain drink flavors. The staff is always courteous and friendly, which makes the experience even better.
With the luxury of smaller, more intimate theaters and the AMC leather recliner seats, you may even forget you're not at home. I'm our many visits, we have never experienced the constant interruptions from people talking, texting and moving around as is more common in larger theaters. Oh, and for the popcorn lovers out there, the butter dispensers are conveniently located in the back hall by the fountain drink machines so you can quickly refill your drink and sneak in another pump of butter when you hit the middle of the bucket without going back to the lobby!
I would 100% recommend visiting this theatre for a fun, relaxing family night or date night experience. The only downside to this small theater is that seats are limited and fill up fast, so make sure to purchase your tickets online a day or two in advance to get the best selection of seats (several days in advance for new and popular movies)!! I would definitely recommend downloading the AMC stubs app for easy ticket purchases, movie reviews, and to earn...
Read moreLooks like management has no leadership. There were guest in lobby and only one person helping serve as the manager and 4 more staff members stood conversing about their personal life events.
As I sat, an employee (gave the tone of a shift leader) talked on the company phone in a personal conversation. If it was not personal it definitely was not professional. All awhile the managers sat at the desk while 2 employees cleaned the food areas. Besides an employee named Darwin (two others that I was not able to get there name. Young lady with glasses and young man in red shirt cleaning) this place would not be a great recommendation to have your names associated with, or recommend to a friend. That is built on the customer service alone not at the product or quality of anything else that I have experienced at this moment.
To say their is an obvious superiority complex would be an understatement. Watching the upper management belittle someone who could barely speak English and was disabled was not only sad but distasteful to be present to.
Food: No one ever at the bar area. They have to call for someone while me and other customers wait to have our orders taken. To pay $10 for a slider you expect for it to be at least edible. Two rolls stuck together and in the middle a warm slap of old brisket. For that I would have paid maybe $2 or better yet just pass on it completely.
Next the movie theaters. Clean theaters, comfy seats and it's nice to be able to have a nice drink with your movie. Overall the theater itself I would give it four stars but as far as the staff goes there should be some reevaluation of the leadership there. It's the customer service, just not great other then the person I mentioned before. Honestly could be one of the better AMC locations, if staff was more attentive to guest and treated all their staff with...
