This week was my first and last time going to this store. The only reason I went here, is because my mother insisted that we try a new market for a change. After reading reviews, I already knew the bag situation was going to be a problem. So much of a problem that when it came time to ring my purchases up, I said to the cashier, "How are we suppose to bag our items up if you guys take our bags at the front door?" The cashier was gracious enough to suggest I get my bags while she rang up the items and when I come back, she'll bag my things up for me. Very sweet of her. The store and the food left more to be desired though. Upon entering there was a strong smell of fish and it wasn't a inviting or fresh smell either. Flies were having a field day throughout the store, shelves and fridges need a deep cleaning/wipe down and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. Our first stop in the store was the fruit/vegetable section, once I saw the white fuzz on the strawberries and other produce just sitting out going bad, I was ready to get out of there. I'm sure it's convenient for a lot of people, especially those who live in the area but this store needs to do better in many aspects.
ETA: March 21st I decided to open the jar of Smuckers Apricot preserves that I purchased from Food Depot, only to be greeted with fuzz and mold. Luckily it was at the top and not where it couldn't be seen. Be careful when shopping here, because clearly this store doesn't care about the quality of their food and...
Read moreBack in the day there was a store called Super Fresh here before Food Depot replaced it. Anyway, my mom shopped @ Food Depot Frederick Ave all the time and so did I before I moved to NE Baltimore. Been back a few times since then when visiting a friend. Store mostly stays very clean & organized.
Majority of employees are friendly & helpful. Very large selection. Prices are up (as with everywhere else due to inflation) but still decent savings. You kinda really should get there around certain times of the week or month to find everything in stock & for the freshest.
Deli is cool and I love their seafood esp steamed crabs but they been slipping lately sort of up & down since Covid as far as quality. There are Hacks in case you need a ride home mostly the same 1's which is good re: safety.
Security does have you check your bags there due to so much shoplifting; I wouldn't go in with any big huge bags. Depending upon the time of the Month you WILL see ppl loitering about and this is an inner city area but I've never had any problems; ...however I grew up in the hoods of Baltimore so I'm not shaky about certain areas or people (although B-More has Changed A LOT) so just be Aware & Observant as you can. Other stores, Fam $, KFC, etc. located here it's like a little mini strip mall dive. Food...
Read more1st of all YOU CANNOT TAKE YOUR SHOPPING CART ONTO THE PARKING LOT! This just blows me, so you have to leave your cart full of groceries in front of the store, go get your vehicle, then wait for a spot to be open so you can pull up & load your groceries into your car (IF everything is still there!) Its ridiculous! It stinks, service stinks & the meat ALWAYS goes bad within 2 days. Last time I went, I seen a Perdue box (chicken) so I thought it may be fresh & they haven't put it on the shelf yet; I open the box & it was frozen LOOSE drumsticks in a box. I guess they just put it on a tray, wrap it up & sell it. Super unsanitary. Anyone could have opened that box; touched, sneezed, or coughed all on the chicken. Not only that, they are misleading customers as to what they're buying... I HATE this place. Most disgusting grocery store I've ever been to... and I've been here plenty of times to know this wasn't...
