The “head mate” was very rude and arrogant, not every person that goes on a head boat are professionals, some want to just sit back and enjoy some peace, but I have never in my many years of experience in fishing charters, bait shop, Captain, commercial etc, I started young and being talked down to a little it’s part of the job .. but the way he spoke to the “greeny” who actually did his job and was maybe 15 so disrespectful, disturbing, and now after I heard the” head mate” tell a young man who came to the boat alone and on time just was the last to board, was very kind, helpful and for the mate to tell him that he has to go to the other side of the boat “that’s my rod and my spot” ? WHAT?? Wait are you a paying customer? I watched you fish as this kid you disrespected helped more ppl with out hesitation. There was 2 rod holders plus your rod that’s plenty of room since you shouldn’t be fishing AT ALL ! Then have the audacity to ask for a tip. Here’s one, be quiet because no one pays to to hear a 50 year old mate yapping about his boat and how they limit on this and that blah blah blah all morning and afternoon . I wish you gave out Tylenol with the bait that he refused to refill and would tell degrading comments to the young kid who was doing his actual job again I say this! .. he was disrespectful all day and to the fisherman that was next to me who was told to leave that spot when there was 2 rod holders open so he was free to fish there but the mate said they belong to him, really? You still didn’t catch anything which makes it better since how much your rodn reel set up was, how many shooting stars you wish upon;) A one upper which is so annoying the BS stories and ignorance twds ppl who were not “regulars” as the mate said himself .. I’m not sure how the captain is not aware of this.. and I will never go in that boat again. 2 keepers with 50 ppl fishing cmon .. drifting way off the wrecks into no man’s land .. half the people only dropped down 1 time per stop on the boat .. you can’t flounder /fluke with all that mushy speering and refrozen squid. A mates job is not trying to educate the fisherman on your new reel or the striper you limited on blah blah but the guy you kicked out of “your spot” and actually stayed there which I was glad here’s the kicker what you didn’t know was a sponsored fisherman whos a captain, charters and was only there to relax and sit back.. Once I found out “the head mate” for some reason picks this guy to bully around who simply came alone was absolutely atrocious but when I got to talking he was so knowledgeable and helped more ppl on that back side of the boat than any worker, he had a fish on every stop.. he caught more fish than the whole boat and tossing them back like they were sunfish at a lake .. he showed me and a few of my buddies a couple things and we all started catching fish!!! I think his name was Joe as well he had a beard like ZZ Top and was respectful like a real fisherman ! .. I believe he said he works a baitshop in Forked River ..I’m gonna stop by to say hello!! We need more Joe’s (I truly believe that was his name) on the boats and on the ocean and less of these “you tube repeat what you heard and can n Sometimes either fish really good or captain a boat well it’s way difficult to master both. . I guess not for this guy though .. sheesh what a nightmare .. 2 keepers on the entire boat, no one even knew where they came from haha I hope ppl see who and what I’m talking about if it hasn’t happened to you already…...
Read moreDec 2nd Striper trip. bangin trip…i lost count of strippers i caught on a an 9” chartreuse paddle tail with 2 oz jig head and a few on old school bucktail just for kicks. Guys were catching on sand eeel rigs as well but I would not say it was better than paddle tails. I know everyone loves white and so do i, however, chartreuse out fished white that day and sand eel rigs in my opinion. Getting to the bottom and letting that paddle tail run 6 or 7 feet on the bottom before it came up initiated strikes constantly. If i had a 3 or 4 oz jig head I would have used that later in the day when the current picked up. Crew was great and the captain went out of his way to keep us on the fish. Our group of 4 hit over 50 strippers and if I had to guess i would say the boat pulled hundred over the rail and everyone had their limit keepers by 10am. I saw one beast come over the rail that was massive most were 27”-32” and plenty of fatties. Put a 10’ mono leader on your line so the mates can grab it and not deal with getting cut up on braid if that’s is what you typically string. Look for Jim (Jersey Jim) he will...
Read moreThis was my second summer on the boat and it was again a good trip. We didn’t get any keepers but we caught quite a few fish and my niece and nephew had fun. The boat goes to about 4 or 5 different spots during the 5 hour trip and you get a great view of the bay and lighthouse on the way out and back.
The boat has an upper deck with seating for a good view or a break from fishing. There’s also an air conditioned galley that sells hot dogs, chips, candy, soda and beer and there are tables to eat at. You can also bring your own cooler which most people do and eat or drink outside or in the galley.
The crew is very friendly and helpful during the entire trip. They will help you with anything you need; baiting the hook, removing fish from the line, fixing tangled gear, using the reel, filleting your catch, etc. They are also very good with kids and first timers. They work only for tips so make sure to take care of them at the end of the trip.
They do accept credit cards or cash and don’t be late because they leave...
