Update: On 5/14/2019 I took the system back to the shop. I was told that they had two extra Disc drives in stock. So i left the system with them for a couple hours while they troubleshooted. In the end, the disc drive motor was blown, and we didn't feel comfortable putting in used hardware again, given the age of the system.
After speaking with the associates they were willing to give me a refund for the bad parts, which is more than reasonable.
Overall, while I am saddened the issue was not resolved, I am pleased with the service i got here. The staff know what they're doing, and did everything in their power to fix the system, while being 100% transparent about any risks involved, given the age. It IS a 16 year old system after all.
I still recommend Tekkies to anyone needing PC or electronic repair.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Only rating 2 stars because, well, here's the story.
Originally i took my gamecube in for issues with the disc drive (Ticket #22439). They troubleshooted it and ended up replacing the disc drive. Total cost $35. About a week later i got a call saying "Hey we got a new drive in and installed. It worked with our test game, but we want to make sure it works with YOUR games. Please come in when you can with some of your own games to test with." Seems fair to me. I come in with four games and do a thorough test with each. All four pass with flying colors. I pay the fee and go home. All seems well so far. I drop the GC off at home and continue my errands for the day.
Come 7pm that night, i hook up the GC, and in celebration of a working system, i pop in Metroid Prime for a good ol fashioned game night. Not even two hours into gameplay and i'm getting "The Game Disc cannot be read" errors. Swap the game to one of the others i tested with, same deal. try ALL games between my roommates, same deal.
I called the store asking about a refund or at least speaking to a manager about further action that Saturday night (May 4th, 2019), and left a voice mail. I, as of this review, have not gotten a call back.
So i rate 2 stars because while the customer service during the process was great, people were nice, and the issue DID get fixed for a bit, the issue ultimately was NOT resolved and made this system's ability to read discs even worse. Which, if you're not familiar with game systems, defeats the purpose.
If i can get communication back from the store or the issue permanently repaired by the shop i paid to do it, i'll gladly change my review. Until then, i can't recommend this shop to anyone, as my initial impressions of their work are...
Read moreI'm highly dissatisfied with Takkies service. Instead replace my son keyboard on expensive gaming laptop for new one they install some used keyboard with burn up damage surface trying to charge me $165 ( new one is cost $200) They did this without notifying me saying that whey trying to save $ for me ..really? In addition laptop got multiple scratches all over surface ( it was new ,never service before) I was refunded for full amount, old keyboard was reinstalled. I manage to order myself keyboard from Europe for $ 145 and replaced myself with YouTube help. This is my first negative review, but it is what it is. ---*
06/15/17 OMG I just couldn't believe what I just read! Aren't you a shame to be so creative with this untruthful comment?? I just couldn't believe . I wasn't thinking about additional comments but this is outrageous. Again.. This info is for costumers since seems like we live in separate dimension. I came to store base on great review looking for good deal for repair. I NEVER ask for $20 repair LOL really? I was aware of high cost running up to $260 for part. I'm technician building occasionally my own comp for hobby ( sorry can't stop laughing) I wait a well over week for computer YOU NEVER CONTACT ME OR ASK FOR PERMISSION TO USE USED PART..I would never allow to put crappy part in expansive gaming laptop . This is the only email I received other then charge and refund.. Please notice word "NEW KEYBOARD "....

Read moreIf you have a Nintendo Switch that is in need of repair, Tekkies is not the ones to go to. Despite their claims, they have no idea what they're doing to repair one. My Switch unfortunately got the orange screen of death and wouldn't move past the error screen. Since it's out of warranty, Nintendo would only replace it and there was a possibility my data wouldn't be transferred to the new one. I found a Youtube video of Tekkies fixing this exact issue and they had a mail in service, so I thought it would be the better option so I could guarantee my data was safe.
HUGE MISTAKE. If I could go back in time, I would have just stuck with sending it back to Nintendo. Firstly, they kept my Switch for 3 weeks trying to fix it. Any time I would call, they would either still be looking into it or waiting on a part (nevermind that their website says they have parts for no wait) and then I would be told that on a later date, they will call me and let me know what the status is.
They never call, they never update you and you will have to constantly call them for updates. Finally they told me that they can't fix the issue and they were clearly in over their heads. I received my Switch back today and now it just won't turn on or hold a charge. They made the issue even worse - my Switch is just dead. They couldn't even return it in the same state I sent it in, they ruined it further.
I'm so incredibly upset at the horrible service I received, I can't believe I waited all that time and paid them money and all I got out of it was my Switch being further destroyed. Just awful.
EDIT: In response to their reply below, I mailed my repair in from out of state, so unless you're going to cover shipping, then your offer to take a second look at the repair doesn't mean anything. I sent an email asking for a response to their reply that they never responded to. If your goal was to try to help rectify the situation and help customers feel valued, this is not the way to...
