I only wish I could give zero stars. I'm a 60-year old, white, disabled male, who's being both discriminated and retaliated by HCC Senior Administration (age, race, disability) to include financial aid, printing of my degrees, as well as allowing me to take classes. I currently have earned eight associate degrees; however, I only have received six. One of them doesn't even list my major. In December 2025, I will earn a ninth degree (A.A. in Sociology - Social Work), but HCC refuses to award it to me. HCC currently has a policy where any student 60 years of age and older can take as many classes as they wish for free, but even though I'm of age, they refuse me classes. The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights is currently investigating my allegations. That office previously investigated HCC approximately ten years ago for the same disability issue and HCC had to change their policy. HCC even refused a request from Harford County Government for mediation, and as of this email has not responded to the U.S.D.E. (OCR) for a request of mediation. They have zero intention of an amicable resolution to this matter, and I have zero doubt it's due to Dr. Theresa Felder. I have over 120 credits, eight associate degrees, I'm a 41-year old member of HCC's elite Phi-Theta-Kappa, and a cumulative GPA of 3.55; however, on more than one occasion I've been on academic probation for no reason whatsoever. HCC has done everything in their power to discourage me from continuing education, but I will not give up! Please do not allow your child or loved one to ever attend HCC, for their experience will be MISERABLE! Oh, a week ago, HCC canceled a grant issued to me by the Maryland Higher Education Commission for no reason, and there's absolutely NOTHING I can do about it! The entire administration is filled with people who discriminate, retaliate, and punish me for no reason whatsoever. Oh, and most important of all, don't seek Student Services, for I was denied disability accommodations, Student Emergency Assistance for no...
Read moreThis college is by far the best community college. Most of the professors are VERY caring and they look for ways to help you get to your goals. You have to know which ones aren't good teachers to avoid them because there are a few..But they are starting to either get fired or move onto other jobs.
The Deans, Academic Advisors, and Disability Staff take very good care in helping you get things handled, they take the time and are very thorough and sincere. My professors Chapin, Dencler, Blackburn, Webster, Griffin,Nesbitt, Guy, S. King, Nevins, Laughland, Kovacic, Guinivan, Judd, Meihls, and Jones. Thank you all for giving me a good college experience. You are the epitome of quality teaching.
There are certain staff members that are not helpful at all and at times even rude and unapologetic, but I don't see them around anymore. (thank goodness)
I will be graduating come May and transferring to another University, but I will really miss HCC. I will remember this school as my first step to the rest of my life journey, and it was such a...
Read moreI'm not a student there yet, but my school took us on a tour and I absolutely loved it. It also gave me the first opportunity to play on an actual grand piano, which was really awesome. I've been playing since last August, and I go to HCC now at least twice a week to practice there. And even if the recital rooms are locked, theres up to 6-8 practice rooms to the left of them (all 88 key weighted uprights w pedals). Would highly recommend 10/10. For Bel Air pianists who are looking for a grand to practice on this is a great place. They're open every day and no one will bother you when you're there playing unless you're in the recital room lol. The recitals are usually closed during weekends, so weekdays anytime before 7pm is best, since that's when students start...
