Family Fare Supermarket — Local services in Benzonia Township

I'm a michigander, and have been using this supermarket for over 20 years at least twice a summer when I vacation in the Sleeping Bear area. I have always been very happy with the service there, until this past Labor Day. I had gone in around 9:00 a.m. and was not busy yet. I overheard the cashier and a customer as I was leaving talking about how today was the best day of the year because all the fudgies were going home. I live in Grand Haven so I am familiar with that term, they're referring to the tourists. The cashier I overheard saying yes, from May 30th until today is the worst part and was also happy that everybody was going home. That's fine to say how they feel, but not in a public area where they can be overheard. We have a lot of tourists in my city in the summer as well and I know that it can be chaotic, but we bring a lot of dollars to their community. Everything you could want all under one roof! Hardware store, crafting supplies, pharmacy, and of course groceries. I think the grocery prices are pretty fair overall. Very good deals with the member card and always low prices on the "Our Family" brand. The Our Family natural creamy peanut butter and vanilla bean ice cream are especially good. The store also does a good job of carrying local in season produce and smaller local brands. 4th of July and the surrounding summer vacation days were really really busy and all of the employees did an admirable job keeping shelves stocked and keeping up with the rush. Pharmacy is a joke. They will yell your personal information out as though they are the Town Cryer from days long passed. Literally was told, verbatim, "These cost over a dollar a pill; if it's really worth it to ya." Ummmm. . .YES!!! My medications ARE worth it to me. Why else on Earth would I take them? And be prescribed them?

The rest of the store is amazing! Looks great- very bright and inviting. I LOVE the customer service counter! They're always friendly with their customers.
