Posting this to give folks a heads-up about recent changes here. First, this is no longer Kathy's Urgent Care. Second, they no longer do drive-thru covid testing. Lastly, covid tests are no longer free at this location. It wouldn't be a 1-star review just because of these facts, but the experience itself was awkward and a waste of time.

We walked in as a family and were told that they recommend signing up online first, rather than stopping in. (Meanwhile there's a GIANT "Walk In" sign outside the building) The gentlemen behind the counter asked us to mute our 5 year old's extremely quiet tablet for the courtesy of other patients. There was only 1 lady on the opposite side of the huge waiting room, who could absolutely not hear a thing... Then when we were filling out paperwork, he couldn't tell us how long the wait would be, and also refused to tell another patient when asked. The other patient asked "Well, could you give me a ballpark idea on how long the wait will be? Is it going to be 15 minutes or 3 hours?" The guy behind the desk literally said "Please fill out the insurance forms first, and then we'll see" in an awkward, monotone, and discomforting voice. When the other patient asked, "How many patients are ahead of me?" the employee also quietly/uncomfortably re-insisted he fill out the forms first! After hearing that, my wife asked, "Is this a doctor's visit or a Covid test?" And only then were we told it's a full doctor's visit, with the expensive and unnecessary Co-Pay to consider. This is why the Covid test is no longer free. We walked out, and the guy behind us followed suit. It's also worth mentioning that we called this place prior to visiting, but couldn't get in touch with a real human.

In summary, it was not a good experience. We scheduled a test at CVS for a nearly instant and free result. Hopefully the never-ending expansion of Hartford Healthcare slows down sooner than later. The small healthcare business (Kathy's) this place replaced was far superior in terms of patient service, convenience, and especially price. As a walk in without an appointment, I was pleasantly greeted by the receptionist. She informed me of a wait situation and not to be surprised if people walked in and were called before me because they had an appointment. I did not know that you could call and make an appointment. She took my information and reason for coming in. While waiting I had a chance to observe the facilities. They were extremely well taken care of. From floor to walls, to placement of chairs, clean and organized. They even have a facility for making tea. There were boxes of tissue placed throughout the seating area. After a short wait I was taken in. Vitals were taken and was told that the Medical Assistant would be in shortly. The MA assessed my condition and prescribed my medication. Both his assistant and he were very pleasant, informative and professional. At no time did I feel rushed or that he did not listen to my description of my symptoms. Overall, a very good experience with Kathy's Urgent Care for rapid COVID testing. The reality is, right now rapid testing for COVID-19 is scarce and in high demand. With that in mind, and to make sure I was one of the first 75 cars in line so I would be guaranteed a rapid test that day, I drove there VERY early and got in the line of cars. I was very impressed with the orderliness and lack of chaos. Valets directed everyone waiting to a spot in order of arrival and gave everyone a number. Staff was friendly, professional and courteous. I was appreciative that I didn't have to get out of my car for any reason and that the test was done from the car. Also, I was able to leave as soon as my test was performed and was glad to be waiting at home for them to call with the result. Results within 3-4 hours after test was performed, so not as rapid with the results as some places, but that is a relatively minor complaint.
