VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. BEWARE AND GO ELSEWHERE!!!
Ask anyone who works there - sales, business manager, etc. Phones/voicemail do not work. Unless they give you a personal cellphone number, no way to contact their staff. "Call you right back" responses take hours.
We were told we have financing approval. Great! Asked for the terms and income documentation requirements. "Oh, I'll call you right back..." really? Who tells someone they have approval and to come in as soon as you can without telling the terms and requirements? Several hours later we finally received this information (terms and no documents needed, just sign) - something they would have already had in hand with a real approval!
Made arrangements for closing. Was suddenly, frantically called and advised us that we needed specific documents. We had asked several times and were told "nothing needed"...we had everything needed, but, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!
Arrived after a 25 Mile drive to their dealership and told all was all set. Then the business manager comes back and says that they made a mistake and one of our income documents was in the form of a 1099 instead of a W2 so it was disqualified... something they would have known if they were a professional organization. We bought a new 2019 Cherokee and $50,000 motorhome using these same documents with not one hint of an issue! Then had the audacity to try a "Bait and Switch" by trying to sell us to go with another lender at a 10% higher interest rate and over $200 a month more. Unbelievably, they were disappointed that we would not buy the vehicle under those terms. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
We had been to this location under the old management (McDonald Jeep) and they were just as bad. We tried to give them a second chance under the new management and have found that only the name and some people have changed, but, the service is less than dismal, still unprofessional and they demonstrated they really do not care what customers think, especially with the phrase from their business manager "...is there anymore venting you wish to do or are we done?" as I was calmly and respectfully explaining the facts of why we are very DISAPPOINTED with their sales technique and actions. Read moreUPDATED3 OCT 2025— Bought a new 2025 Equinox EV on a Tuesday at Baker Big Rapids. Notified dealership the home charger was missing Wednesday morning. They suggested I drive 1.5 hours to pick mine up at the dealership. I declined and suggested they deliver one ASAP or arrange for me to pick one up at their Alma location. Neither suggestion was acted upon. Instead I was told charger would be promptly shipped. Promptly shipped apparently to Baker Chevy of Big Rapids is 3 days later....Charger wasn't picked up by UPS until late Friday and isn't scheduled to arrive until Monday evening which is 6 days after dealership was notified I was missing the charger. ... 103 miles of charge currently to get me through the weekend. To say I feel customer service was poor is an understatement. We aren't talking about missing floor mats but a critical piece of hardware needed for convenient and cost effective charging operations. Today I stopped at the Baker location in Alma for a cargo light issue and to ask if I could charge up the battery to get me through the weekend. Unfortunately light wasn't an easy fix so now have appointment for next week which is fine. But in regards to topping off my battery I was told I would need to use my CC to use their fast charger.....so much for courtesy service at a second Baker location........
UPDATE-3 OCT 2025 I wrote my review Friday night. Duane from the dealership called Saturday morning and apologized for a poor experience and that they were going to deliver a charger Saturday afternoon. I was therefore able to fully charge(recommended 80%) by Saturday evening….This was after they had already shipped a charger Friday afternoon with a ETA of late Monday. I do appreciate their attention on this matter and trust future EV customers will leave with their chargers….. The cargo light not working has also been resolved at Baker in Alma. It’s seems a few EVs left the factory with disconnected cargo lights . Or so I read online…. There is one feature missing from my RS level trim level that would have been very nice. Read moreI wouldn’t even give one star if I could give zero, I am purchasing an equinox from them and when I went in I asked if there was anything wrong with the vehicle, I was told no by the salesman, the day after I bought it the check engine light came on, I am a single mom and stated that to him,and told him I need something that is safe. Well about a week later things got worse and the car started stalling with my kids in the car so now is dangerous for me to drive. I brought in and they supposedly looked at it,but before he even brought it back he said it was the cam shaft sensor, and when he brought it back out that is what he said was wrong and my oil was low, (how did he know what was wrong with it without being a mechanic or being the one to ever look at it?!?!) before I came there I was smart and brought it to auto zone and had it hooked up and , specifically asked if any other codes popped up to see if he would lie and unfourtnatly he did and said there wasn’t any other codes and nothing else was wrong, Well this seemed fishy because he said they cleared the codes “again” and I only brought it in once so this tells me that he cleared them so it would work well enough for me to buy it. And we did think it was weird that he had it running before we got there.Yesterday he was starting to be rude and stated I knew it was a high mileage vehicle and I knew it was an as is car. I did know it was high mileage but did not know There was anything wrong with it at all he said it would def last me a couple years. And told me there was nothing wrong with it, I went by his word and and that he was a honest salesman and he was anything but I would tell people to stay clear from this place. The salesman that sold it to me because he has lied about multiple things, I went to betten Baker because I thought this was an honest place and people with integrity and morals worked there.
