Finally made it out here during a Maker’s Market and took a tour, which just confirmed that we needed to come back. So fun to have an idea of what people have been making here, and we all bought something wonderful. My son has been dying to make weapons like all the ones he sees in the video games and on “Forged in Fire”, and this is the kind of place that really feeds his creative side. We were happy to learn that there was no age restrictions, I just had to stay on the premises during his class. He made a Viking inspired shield which allowed him to use some new tools, try out working with wood, metal and leather, and experience working hard to complete a project - of course, everything’s harder than it looks on TV! What a wonderful experience for him and can’t wait to get him back in for more classes - the only trouble is choosing which one, as they all look amazing! Kenneth was fantastic and did a good job of assisting to help my son keep up with the other adult students while also letting him struggle a little with the hard work/new skills.100% recommend, and a perfect way get in touch with Birmingham’s iron industry history- a metalworking class would be a memorable and unique experience combined with a tour of Sloss furnace for out of town visitors, and I’m hoping we can make that...
Read moreI just left my glassblowing class there today 10/29/24, and let me just say: Garrett Pesta, the instructor, was FABULOUS!!!! While, I know I got to, “play” more freely, than your typical first time blower, because I’ve had 4 experiences blowing glass, and I’m a stained glass and fused artist; therefore , I’ve learned a lot in a few years. I know ANYONE, who takes a class with him, will get A LOT of, hands on experience. While, he doesn’t yet, have what’s called a big glory hole, for beginners to intermediate skills, we were able to push the limits of his 12” deep kiln and push we did😂. Him and I, even worked on, practicing some new technique, and I can’t wait to take more classes. The $135, was WAY WORTH every penny! Because, one person, got to make as many pieces as you could, and if you had 4 people with you, they’d get to make something too. People that’s 5 pieces for $135!!!! You CANNOT get that, anywhere else, guaranteed!!!! So, get your friends, heck divide the cost, but you have to get this experience! Because I know...
