I would give this place 10 stars if I could based solely on one person: Bill.
My 10 year old son was expressing an interest in getting an R.C. car, and although he has had many “low quality, R.C. toys” in the past, I thought it was time for him to get a higher quality, upgradable, repairable unit. We knew virtually nothing about what brand to start with, style, electric vs. liquid fuel, etc. so naturally I turned to Google for direction. Google/the internet of course left me feeling completely overwhelmed so I looked to the next best thing: the idiots that I surround myself with on a regular basis. So after getting the opinions of my friends I still didn’t know much. Fortunately Google did actually come through and directed me to The R/C Pro Shop. To be honest, I didn’t even know that R/C hobbies were even “still a thing” and I kinda figured that guys that were into that sort of thing had given it up in the 90’s to focus their attention on full time gaming in their parents basement. Well, I now feel ashamed to have those preconceived notions. My son and I help take care of the property of a widow that is unable physically to do the work herself. In the past I’ve explained to my son that we’re not doing this work for any money but if she offers then he can graciously accept it and keep it all. So we had a pretty big project on our hands to truck and spread 12 yards of wood chips in a playground area of this property. My son works like a mule, never complains, and can run a shove, rake, or wheel barrow with the best of them. He knows the importance of a job well done and knows the importance of helping others. I couldn’t be more proud. After the job was done, he did earn enough money to put himself in range of getting a decent R/C car. He had money saved that he had earned previously and I told him I’d cover the rest of the costs because of how proud I am of him. Enter Bill. After the wood chip job was done we drove over to the R/C Pro Shop. I’m sure I smelled like a barn and we were covered in a thick layer of dirt and wood chips plastered to our skin by sweat. We probably didn’t look like we were prepared to spend a dime or that we even had one to spend. The man on duty at the store, Bill, was excellent! He spent probably over an hour sharing his expertise with us without the slightest bit of condescension which can sometimes show up when an expert is talking to a novice. Not only that but he seemed genuinely happy to share his knowledge. My son has difficulties that manifest themselves with verbal communication yet Bill treated him with respect and patience. That kind of thing goes a long way with me. Bill also let at least two calls go to the answering machine while assisting us to give his full attention. As a parent of a child with these difficulties and growing up with family members that also have mental disabilities I’ve learned to spot pandering and condescension a mile off. Had I detected even the slightest amount we wouldn’t spend a dime there and I’d make it a hobby of mine to bad mouth the establishment. We learned a lot about the hobby and eventually settled on a “ready to run” Traxxas “Slash” kit and extra battery totaling in the neighborhood of $350. Not bad to get started into the hobby. My son is thrilled! This was just yesterday at the time of writing this review and although I typically wouldn’t leave such a lengthy review, I feel it important to try to adequately express my appreciation. I’m already doing research on what upgrades to do to the car and thanks to Bill, now have the information and direction to do so. I’m definitely planning on doing more business with R/C Pro-Shop in the future as we upgrade or need repair parts. Bill was absolutely wrong about one thing though. He told my son that “in six months dad will want his own car.” I...
Read moreVery knowledgable owner. This place tries to stay in the lane of what they carry vehicle brand wise. But have other small parts that can help anybody. Doesn’t want to sell you something he knows won’t work for you. Always friendly. And ready to help keep you going in the hobby. Sometimes even below msrp on pricing on the cars not a lot. 10$ or so on some things. But knows his stuff. Thinks about the potential for a return trip and tries to get you everything you’ll need for the full repair in one swoop. Prices are good on parts. And has a good selection. My buddy said he wished they carried arrma and there parts. But have him a reason to switch to Traxxas when he has the money. Closest arrma dealer is 45 mins away in either direction. And the owner doesn’t just look at a sale as a dollar amount he looks at it as a chance to make sure you’re good to go when you get home making the repairs. Watched a kid come in and he broke a control arm and a shock piston. Could have sold him just that and had them sol by the time they got home and realized they needed shock oil. Made sure to explain they would need it. And probably a good idea to rebuild the other 3 while he was at it if they hadn’t been touched in a few months. Just so they are all gone through. Figured out the most cost effective way to have any parts he may need. Compared full rebuild kits vs individual what commonly goes bad when doing the repair. First time in was the holiday weekend. Went in for shock oil. Came out with a mini xrt, shock oil and an extra battery. Due to customer service. Wasn’t going to pull the trigger on a new rc that day. But couldn’t pass up the deal and again the customer service was top notch. Scott’s a cool dude. Only ever been in there on sundays. Always closed by the time I’m out of work during the week. Wish he was open saturdays. But that’s when they do the rc racing. And I respect him staying in the hobby that pushed him into a store/repair center for rc. Heard they do solid repair work affordable too for those that don’t want to mess with it themselves. Your one stop for Traxxas rc. If he don’t have it. It probably doesn’t exist. Or it’s on order. Again great customer service. Big selection for size of the building and room to move. Maximized his space. Will be a long term loyal...
Read moreAfter a 30yr hiatus, I recently revisited my fascination with R/C by picking up a TLR SCTE 3.0. I thought I had everything I needed only discover I didn't have tire glue. I didn't want to wait for it to be shipped to me when my truck was so close to being finished so I searched for a brick-n-motor rc shop and found these guys were local. I've driven past the shop at least a hundred times and just never realized it was there. I'm so far removed from the hobby that I don't know too much about all the current products and the guy behind the counter was helpful. He was also knowledgeable about tracks in the area to race at. Thanks for the glue recommendation, works great! And I'll be checking out the tracks too!
I'd recommend a better sign, might get some impromptu stops just to check the store out. I know I probably would've stopped in much sooner had I known the...
