Heights Fresh Market — Local services in Bloom Township

I shop here about once a week. It's a small neighborhood market stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, a lot of Latino/Caribbean specific ethnic foods and spices, some alcohol, a bakery and a hot food counter in the back. One reviewer noted that the staff was unfriendly and possibly racist which I disagree with. I am a Black American and have not experienced any issues in shopping there. The contention may be a language and familiarity issue more so than race related. I attempt with my bad Spanish to communicate and am greeted kindly by the staff. After all, money is green no matter who is spending it. The Rotisserie chicken, guacamole and beans are very nice here. The fruit and vegetables are not Whole Foods quality but they are of acceptable quality and the meat is presented nicely and of average quality. Milk, eggs, bread are all fresh. They have an assortment of cheeses, a nice small bakery and a liquor section with enough alcohol to get you by. I also appreciate all of the little Latino knick knacks you can find in here to buy. Upset with the fact the cut my meat with the wrapping it came in and ended up with a dozen plus pieces of fabric in my meat and they didn’t tell me when they gave it to me. Had to pick off the pieces carefully because some were so small. Ended up throwing it away. Been going here since it was built and trusted them, didn’t have issues. Customer service was terrible and I will not be coming back. Was asked to bring it back in if I wanted anything for the inconvenience, or freeze it until the next time I come in so I could just exchange it. Yea I just spend an hour to get there. This is the ONLY place where my mom and I will buy meat, the meat here (beef, chicken, fish, pork) is THE BEST quality. We drive 30+ minutes to come here to buy our groceries and we absolutely LOVE how sweet the employees are.

HOWEVER, this is the 2nd time we've purchased moldy, mushy, bruised strawberries. It isn't until you take them out of the container, especially when you get home that you see how bad they are. In the container in the store they look perfectly fine, but, when I took the strawberries out to wash and cut up this is what I see (picture) I expect better from a place called "FRESH MARKET" especially since their meat products never give...
