I refilled a prescription for critical medicine. It took them days to fill because while the script is vastly common - they didn’t carry it or were out of stock. Once it was filled, I paid extra for same day delivery because I had a sick child and limited access to transportation. I received a message saying it would be delivered and the money was taken out of my account. 6 hours later when it was not delivered and I knew the pharmacy would close in an hour - I called. I was told that they “didn’t get a fax” so they would “open a ticket” about it. Maybe they “would know more tomorrow. But we are closing tonight.” so although I paid for critical medicine to be delivered, they told me to go away because they “didn’t get a fax” They didn’t rectify the problem and then look into it later, because I needed the medicine. They didn’t figure out a way to help me considering my circumstances, and the fact that I had paid for delivery of the critical medicine today when the pharmacist was dismissive, I called customer service, and after speaking to seven different people over the course of an hour - they told me all they could do was “open up a complaint”, and yet they did not ask or take my information or the location of the pharmacy. They did not take the name of the store, and even though there is a Walgreens on seemingly every square mile of the United States of America, there was no attempt to get to me in as timely a manner as possible the medication that I had paid to have delivered and that is critical to my health and that of my unborn child. here’s the thing: very often when we get stressed at work or life, we say to ourselves “we’re not saving babies it’s not that important“ Walgreens actually is saving curing protecting children and human beings. And it is clear that they care not about their paying customers or those human beings, or their medical welfare. They clearly demonstrated a lack of concern or care for a pregnant women who paid for a service they failed to provide that it critical to the health of both. This is not OK on any level whatsoever. This is absolutely brutally callous and quite sinister to actually not do anything to rectify such a situation. I am shocked that those with such great responsibility to people and children’s health would be so very deeply negligent. After their affiliation with Theranos - we would have hoped they would at least care about their reputation. But clearly they feel their monopoly is sufficient to justify a callous disregard for humans, customers, pregnant women and...
Read moreMy name is Sherrie Dunning, a newly published author of children’s books, and I recently experienced a moment of true kindness and professionalism that I simply must share.
As I prepared for my very first vending opportunity for Juneteenth—an exciting event on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Bloomfield, New Jersey—I found myself in urgent need of a new banner, poster board, and business cards. But completing my order online proved challenging because of my visual impairment. I didn’t feel confident navigating the process without in-person help.
That’s when I called Walgreens in Belleville and spoke with Naomi, the shift lead, on Tuesday, June 16, 2025. From the very start, Naomi listened patiently as I explained my vision and the frustrations I had been facing for nearly 24 hours trying to complete my order. Without hesitation, she told me she’d be working the next day and invited me to come in so she could personally assist me.
True to her word, Naomi greeted me with warmth and a generous spirit. She set aside time—two full hours—while still managing her leadership responsibilities, to sit beside me, guide me through the creative process, and ensure I was comfortable every step of the way. Her patience, care, and attentiveness reminded me that customer service is not just a transaction—it’s about human connection.
Naomi wasn’t alone. Evin kindly stepped in to assist me when Naomi was needed elsewhere, and Leisha, the store manager, brightened the entire store with her smile and encouragement. Both women offered kind words, thoughtful support, and genuine care for my success.
I left Walgreens not just with my printed materials in hand, but with a heart full of gratitude. In that store, I was not treated as just a customer—I was welcomed as a neighbor, supported as a creator, and respected as a person.
This experience reminded me that simple acts of kindness, patience, and professionalism can truly change someone’s day—or even their life.
Thank you, Naomi, Evin, and Leisha, for reminding me of the beauty of humanity. Because of you, my Juneteenth event will shine just a little brighter.
