New Update 5/8 /2022 Another wonderful experience at this restaurant, had rare eye of round Pho, as usual, fantastic, they have changed the china, I prefer the white and traditional teacup, check the pictures, management might think otherwise, I would like to see the conventional china and not the new age design the matt black, anyway, the ambiance and friendly staff still remains the same.
Updating my review for the 4th visit on 1/22/2022 - Excellent Pho place.
I had # 29. Huế Style Beef Noodle Soup (Spicy) - Bún Bò Huế $11.95 Rice vermicelli noodle with beef brisket, pork knuckles & pork ham.
I love regular Pho and this time I opted for one mentioned above. Needless to say, the quality was again excellent, broth was full of flavor, I had it with egg noodles at the recommendation of Liem. This review is for Liem, whom I met first time today, pleasant and with high emotional quotient. I matter of factly mentioned as I was going through the menu, to have really good food to settle my foul mood. He immediately and genuinely engaged me with kind and encouraging words. He didn't had to, but stayed long enough to make me feel relaxed. I would not expect such engagement by someone waiting my table.
It made the experience twice good, this is almost a non descript Pho place but very high quality of food and I have always experienced great service. If you have to drive extra mile, it will be worth the drive.
This was my first review of Bihn Doung on 11/11/2021 Never knew this place existed until a friend suggested. Just came back from a very fulfilling heart meal. Liked the ambiance as I stepped in, the bamboo decoration lends a rustic feeling and feels like back home, from where ever you are, I think will give you that feeling. Friendly and instant greeting, and we were shown the table. I like to ask for the hot tea, it was good, I had to ask for a hot one and then placed our order. . We started with Fried Spring Rolls (5). One of the tastiest, it had a crispy skin, solid with pork filling and so hot, right out of the wok. loved it. Then ordered on a whim Roasted Quails (4)- liked it, not a bad choice. My friend ordered Huế Style Beef Noodle Soup (Spicy) - Bún Bò Huế and I ordered Rare Eye of Round and Brisket Phở - Phở Tái Nạm. I tasted Huế Style Beef Noodle Soup and had a bite of pork knuckle, it was tender, falling of the bone and a hint of a fragrance, some blend of spices I could not put my finger on, but caramelized onion I would say, in the soup, nonetheless it was very tasty. My dish, the beef noodle soup was excellent. The soup was very hearty and fragrant. It tasted very balanced and the meat was ample in the bowl. I am a fan of Pho and go to any length to find a Pho place. This turned out to be excellent. The serving of soup was fulfilling. I will go there often even it is out of my way and a bit of a drive. I felt very satisfied and content when I stepped out of this nice cosy almost nondescript piece of South Vietnam.
This is my second visit to Binh Duong on 11/27/2021 at 3 PM
It was nice to see the restaurant full to its capacity. I had to wait in my car as there were people already waiting. Parking could be an issue, as toady all spots were taken in the entire plaza.
The cashier lady did not forget me and in 10 minutes I was seated.
I had #30 Chef Special Pho- with flank steak and braised ox tail. $14.95. I love ox tail, but I never had it before in a soup, I loved it. Broth, as always is the star in the entire soup. Meat was so tender and ox tail flesh was well cooked. I ordered fried spring rolls, #1 under Appetizers. Crispy fried pork rolls. It is a must try item. My experience today was same as last visit, every single table was occupied and besides me, and another couple, all patrons seemed to be ethnically associated with the restaurant, that is a good indicator for me to eat at such places. Needless to say, I will continue to visit this little cozy place with very friendly...
Read moreIt was not a too pleasant experience at the beginning but foods were great and that waiter attitude got improved, I would like to give 4.5 stars.
The restaurant is small, around 10 small tables, no background music, so it’s quite quiet. We arrived at around 11:10am there were 2 tables customers already. A waiter approached when we stepping in and I said “2 please”. He fingered point a table at the far corner. I thought that’s good and waited for him to guide us through. He did not and saw us still standing and asked me “you wanted a table?” I said yes. He finger pointed again and waited to see if we are moving. Okok fine I can walk by myself.
We scanned the barcode and read the menu. Yes we “read” as there are a lot small words on the menu w/o picture. For someone like us haven’t been to a Vietnam restaurant for many years, we were so lost not able to quickly find what we want…
The same waiter helped us to order. We liked to have the half moon shape fried eggs. We did not know what that was called but it looked like that from google photos. He asked me if we liked shrimp or beef, I said shrimp. He then asked again shrimp or tofu. I said I have no idea (what’s he talking about as I already made my choice) he then said “that’s a question!” And bla bla bla. I had no patient to listen to the rest and said “Shrimp” again. Then we ordered pho and chose the spicy one. He said no pho on that one. All items under pho category, this one has no pho. I asked why it’s put under it. He did not explain and said something else… I really lost my patient and I said forget this skip the pho! And I voice was loud.
I had had a good day before above and we’re supposed to have good Vietnamese food so I stayed w/o dragging my wife to leave. And all the food were deserved our stay. Lemongrass grilled chicken with sauce tasted so fresh. Hot coffee was great too, both the smell and flavor. All other waiters were nice and willing to explain when we had other questions (yes we eventually ordered the house pho, definitely recommended).
Parking lot is small. If we are going next time, we will choose...
Read moreI ordered takeout from this restaurant and had a bad experience. The staff and the restaurant was disorganized and I had to wait forever for my food to be prepared. When I finally got the order home, the pho was cold which it shouldn't have been as I only live a few blocks away. The spring rolls were mushy and greasy and the fixings for the pho had been packed so carelessly that they were all over the bottom of the bag. The meat was mushy and had a funny smell like it had been sitting around for too long.
Yet the place was fairly busy and since I had read some decent reviews, I decided to give the place a second chance and this time dine there. The website clearly says that the kitchen closes at 10:00pm but since it was a weeknight and I got out of work late I decided to call. The person who took my call said that they would be taking the last order at 9:30 but I was still able to make it by that time. Long story short, I arrived an 9:31 and the waiter told me the kitchen was closed. Not only did he refuse to seat me, but he was extremely rude. He was a short, man with round glasses and aside from wearing way too much tacky bling, has no business working in the FOH of any restaurant. I called to let the owner know about both bad experiences
Apparently this restaurant is owned by a "gentleman" named Bao. When I told him about the experience, he told me that I shouldn't have been late and was not at all sympathetic to my issue. Frankly, I think that the person I spoke with was the same rude waiter. Maybe HE is the owner which would be pretty scary. As a sidebar, when I was told that I was too late by the rude waiter a table of 6-8 Asian people dining there called me over and told me that he has a reputation for being very rude, so apparently my situation is not that uncommon.
Poor food and poor service are not a recipe for success. Bloomfield is in the middle of a restaurant boom and I doubt that Binh Duong will be in business for very long given the...
