BE CAUTIOUS... I was genuinely excited to check out this place after moving to the area. They had some cool stuff inside and even mentioned plans to expand within the shopping center—which sounded promising. But what happened during my visit was deeply concerning.
I tried to make a basic $30 purchase, and the guy at the counter told me I was required to provide:
My government-issued ID My email address My phone number My credit card And they would store my card info in their system
All of this just to buy a few items. I said, “Let me grab cash from my truck,” and he replied, “Sorry sir, we’d still need all that information to complete the transaction.” He was polite and clearly just following store policy—but that policy is wildly invasive.
Let’s be clear: this is not normal. You don’t give this kind of personal data to buy donuts at Walmart or spark plugs at AutoZone. You provide this level of information when renting a car or booking a hotel—not when shopping at a local card store.
Even worse? Cash was not accepted. That’s right—no cash option, no anonymous transaction. Everything had to go through their system, and they insisted on collecting and storing sensitive data.
If their excuse is “we’ve been burned before,” that’s not justification for violating customer privacy. There are legitimate fraud prevention tools that don’t require harvesting personal data and storing credit card info.
This raises serious ethical questions:
Why is a physical retail store refusing cash? Why are they requiring sign-ups and storing card data for basic purchases? What safeguards are in place to protect that data? Are customers being informed of how their information is stored, used, or shared?
Customers need to respect themselves and their data. If a business is asking for the equivalent amount of information a bank does to open an account, something’s off. Be careful out there—and ask questions before you hand over your identity....
Will not...
Read moreI was super excited to find out a game store has popped up in Boerne. Unfortunately I feel too awkward to go back. I stopped by to browse and get a feel for the store and maybe buy something. While browsing I saw some sleeves that had a really good price on them so I thought why not? When I went to check out, the lady rung up the sleeves and then proceeded to charge me about $5 more than the price that was listed. She didn’t even mention anything about the price tag that was on them. It felt really awkard. I told her the price tag said differently and then she downplayed the fact the price was listed wrong. Then another lady behind the counter asked what was going on and . I thought she was going to be helpful but instead she just shrugged it off. Idk why she didn’t say anything about the price being different before charging me and it made me feel like I was trying to scam them…I was hesitant to post this because I really want a good store for mtg in Boerne, but then I read that they did something similar to someone else and realized they need to know that they are losing customers because they don’t understand business. Business is about trust and loyalty. If you care more about $5 than building a loyal customer base that would bring in much more money than that over time and give good reviews and tell friends its a good place then sorry to say, but you will not be around long which is very...
Read moreThis is a cool shop that's very much needed in the area. They have a great Lorcana selection and the staff and owners are extremely friendly. I'm rating a two star because while it's a chill place their price inflation is pretty high. I had a interesting experience while trying to buy a graded single that had already been marked as $20. Cashier told me the pricings don't reflect what they're being sold for and processed to scratch off the price. At the end I was asked what I was willing to offer for the card and we declined to go further when discussing the price. Overall, you can find market priced single cards and MtG products online from sources like CardKingdom. I wish this place the best but even before this encounter I already had many issues with their pricing. I honestly wish yall the best but I won't be coming back...
