This was a very pleasant experience. Our guide, Gabriel, was charming, knowledgeable about Boston's history, brimming with welcome and friendliness, and just wonderful company. The tour was well structured as a protracted meal offered in bits in a series of historic spots. The dishes represented authentic aspects of Boston's Hay Market and the North End, which allowed Gabriel to put them in the context of fun historical anecdotes. Most of the food was delicious, especially New England clam chowder, lobster rolls, and cannoli. The only disappointment was the pizza, which was so soggy that we couldn't scrape it off the box. I especially appreciated Gabriel's willingness to adjust his plan, just a bit, to accommodate some individual needs and preferences, even though the company doesn't officially allow substitutions. I absolutely recommend this tour, at least with Gabriel, if you're looking not for adventurous or fancy tastes but to dip your toe into Boston's...
Read moreAs a Boston local and Boston-enthusiast, I decided to spice up my summer by booking this tour so that I could get to know what I believe is the best city in the U.S. better! Our small group was led by Gabriel, or Gabe for short. Gabe was the dream tour guide! I seriously can’t imagine having anyone else because he was THE best. He was funny, knowledgeable, down to earth, accommodating, relatable, and personable. He did a great job bringing us all together and by the end I was slightly sad the tour was over. I learned a lot about Boston’s history, enjoyed all the food on the tour (which was a lot so I really feel that I got my money’s worth), and we were fortunate enough to have had splendid weather. Playing tourist in your own city is so much fun, highly recommend! Now I can revisit all of the places we went to again and check off the list of recommendations...
Read moreOur guide, Kyle, was great! He was engaging and very knowledgeable. He ensured everyone was able to walk at their own pace and provided opportunities and accommodations for those that needed it.
We loved our time at Union Oyster House with the corn bread and clam chowder and the lobster roll at Boston Public Market was my favorite! We also tried Q Nuts, pop overs, lemon slushies, Ragina's Pizza and Modern Pastry cannoli. All the while, we had a great history lesson and a lovely walk!
My only drawback to this tour is the lack of gluten free options. I have done food tours in many international cities and all have accommodated a gluten free option. Not having gluten free options, meant my daughter had a salad, a few nuts and a slushy.
I do encourage Secret Food Tours to work with the local restaurants to offer options for guests with severe...
