I usually do not like writing bad reviews, especially for small businesses. However, my recent experience with Spath is more a buyer beware as all of their other reviews here are good which was the reason I trusted them in the first place.
Have used them for resizing twice. First time went smooth enough, re-size of a plain 10k men's gold band as an extra wedding band for my husband. No issues. I decided to trust them however with a resize for a beloved vintage piece I had purchased in 2018 (from somewhere else). It is one of the simplest rings I have - what could go wrong? The resize seemed expensive, (just over $50.00) but I wanted to make sure it was DONE RIGHT.
Cliff notes to save anyone my own ordeal. When I picked it up my re-sized ring I didn't fully inspect and they messed it up. Please learn from my mistake and fully inspect it right then and there, and if its not done right save yourself a headache, wasted time and money. Ask for a refund and go elsewhere. And if its a piece you REALLY LOVE, especially if there are any set stones, go somewhere else.
Longer version for those who like details: When I went to pick up the ring from the original re-size, I noticed when I was half-way home that the center stone (a moonstone) was loose. Not just a little loose. Visibly easily shifted in every single direction loose. I called them, they said bring it back in, would fix for free. I brought it back in. Went to pick it up a second time. IT WAS STILL LOOSE. I have no idea what type of quality control they have but it is clearly lacking.
I told the woman at the counter I really just wanted my ring and to leave, at that point I didn't want them touching it again. She wouldn't give it back to me. Literally wouldn't give it back to me.
I asked if she could please just give me back my ring, she insisted that the manager had to take a look at it. He walks over, takes the ring straight back. At that point, I'm left standing there, flabbergasted. Neither sales associate said a single word, as I waited for my ring that I had asked for several times for.
The manager comes back, and tells me that basically its the rings fault and they put stone adhesive on it as he's finally giving it back to me. Right then and there they basically glued it, not letting it cure, not letting it sit for 24 hours, not cleaning it up, etc. The manager said sometimes this can happen during re-sizing. I said well, it was perfectly tight, never loose before THEY re-sized it. Not only that, but it appears they may have gotten some adhesive (or something) clearly visible on the moonstone itself. So for $50, they basically destroyed my $700 irreplaceable one of kind beautiful moonstone ring that I likely will never be able to fully trust wearing again, nor appreciate again as the stone itself looks damaged, and I'm scared to try to clean it in case the "adhesive" shifts anywhere else. .
No refund offer for re-sizing and while I REALLY should have demanded one, at that point I just wanted to leave. I had already wasted too much of my time and energy.
The only offer the manager gave was to take the stone out, clean it, and put it back in the setting. A setting that they were clearly incapable of professionally resizing - how would I ever trust them basically de-construct the ring and fully re-set it????? I likely would have come back to broken prongs that I'm sure would have also been the ring's fault. Needless to say I left, and shall never return.
Also a side note - they store all of their customer's pieces in plastic bags piled up in a bin. This bugged me when I dropped my piece off but I figured well they're jewelers, they should know what's acceptable to store priceless heirlooms. After this experience, I wouldn't trust that mind-set either, and if you do end up taking your piece here, insist they store it in something more appropriate especially if its...
Read moreI came into the store on a whim to look at cross pendent to replace a smaller one. While I was there I decided to ask about a ring that happened to have a emerald and a ruby with what I thought were diamonds, my husband and I always had talked about making a ring quite similar to this ring, I lost my husband in late May of this year to cancer that he had only been diagnosed 7 months earlier with and I told them about all of this we had nice chat. The woman behind the counter then told me that the ring I was looking at had cubic zirconia in it not diamonds so I asked if it was possible that they could make it for me well the jeweler was not there at the time so I left my phone number and waited for them to call. I came back to the store a couple of days later and it so happened that they had taken my number down wrong, it happens. They called the gentleman that make the jewelry and he was on his way in so I waited when he came in the clerk showed him the ring that I like and if that same ring could be made with diamonds, he showed me a ring that could be used and he said yes he could do it for me. It took them a few days which we all know that things take time pretty soon I got the call that it was done and I could come and pick it up so later that day I did just that. When I got there there was a few people in front of me you know it is a very good sign if the business has good amount of clients. When they showed me the ring I was stunned it was everything that I had asked them to do and more. The craftsmanship of the ring is very high quality, the diamonds were beautiful and both birth stones were beautiful as well. I was told that the jeweler had a hard time making it but it doesn’t look like it. I can’t express how it made me feel to put this ring on to honor my husband and our marriage. And I can’t express how I feel about what they made and how gorgeous it is. Thank you so much and I will always recommend you for anyone jewelry need you Spath Jewelers in Valrico do quality work and I was treated very well by all of the staff it is a nice family business I truly hope for you many many wonderful...
Read moreSpath Jewelers in Valrico is the best jeweler in town. I have visited local jewelers in Brandon and the service and price was just always leaving me with wanting more. I needed to match my engagement ring to a platinum band and was very specific about what i wanted. When i walked in Spath Jewelers had a buffet of Valentine's Day goodies and mini bottled water for whoever wanted it. All the team members interacted with each customer and each other. You could immediately tell it was a warm and family friend environment. Jim and Brian both helped me tremendously in finding the perfect wedding band for my Solstice engagement ring. They were fun and warm and informative and honestly it was the best jewelry buying experience i've had. i wish we had gotten my engagement ring set there. they were also able to fix a pair of earrings i had within 1 day for very inexpensive.
they have top notch customer service, are clearly very team oriented - refreshing and warm would be the best way i could describe it. we will certainly take all our jewelry back there for whatever we may need. they were great and i cant say enough good...
