Advanced Skin Care Spa — Local services in Buffalo Township

I've been to Advanced Skin Care and Plush multiple times for multiple services. It has been hit or miss. Emily is amazing at waxing, Karen does fantastic job with hair and Kylie works magic with makeup. But my last experience was an EPICALLY HUMUNGOUS miss.

I got my typical full highlight service. And I asked the girl to blow it out after the cut. This is when it all started to go wrong. She seemed very rushed and slightly annoyed that I asked for a blow out. She rough dried it and then flat ironed it. Not what I asked for, but whatever, it didn't look too bad. I realized there was a problem when I got home and couldn't run my fingers through the bottom part of my hair. I then later on noticed that ends of my hair were breaking off. At this time, it was too late to call the salon as I was on the road to Baltimore for a wedding. I didn't realize the full extent of the damage until the following day after I showered. I always air dry my curly hair, that day was no exception, but as it dried I noticed that the ends were frizzled, crimped at odd angles and just all over not sitting right as my normal curl would. My hair looked and felt terrible. Pieces of hair were breaking off at lightening speed. It was alarming. I had NEVER had this happen to me. I called the salon and spoke to Jennifer, who the receptionist identified as one of the stylists. Here I later find out that she is the owner, but she never identified herself as that. Jennifer told me to try deep conditioning (which I did) and stated that sometimes with highlight services that this will happen to hair. I told her that in the many years of getting my hair highlighted, my hair has never looked or felt this unhealthy or had this kind of breakage. She told me to come in so she could look at it. Unfortunately, I was unable to do that as I now live out of town in Wisconsin and was only home for the weekend. She then stated that I could come back in when I was next in town to get this rectified. 5 weeks of living with completely trashed hair, no thanks!!! Jennifer never once offered a refund and requested pictures of the damage. So I visited a reputable salon in Milwaukee where the girl took pictures of the damage (which I sent to Jennifer) and she then proceed to take off all the heat damaged ends... this amounted to 3 INCHES!!! THREE!!! Now I was not happy. I have been growing out my hair for months now. So I emailed Jennifer these pictures. I was told in an email response that she was on vacation until June 28th. I never heard anything from her, so I called on July 3rd. Here's the kicker to it all, Jennifer, the owner, never once called me back. Nope, she had another one of her employees call me to tell me I would be getting a full refund and was sorry for my trouble.

Thanks Jennifer for the refund. BUT if I were an owner of a company and I talked to a client about a problem, I would make sure I was the one that followed up and not delegate that task to someone else. This is a poor way of conducting business, especially in the service industry. I will NEVER use your services again and I certainly will not be recommending your salons to...

Working with Advanced Skincare Spa and Salon was the best choice possible when it came to wedding hair and makeup, and I couldn’t recommend them more!

When I first contacted the salon, I wasn’t expecting a positive response, as I had already been told by multiple salons that they couldn’t accommodate a bridal party of our size, especially on Memorial Day weekend. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she agreed to work with us and didn’t bat an eye at the number of girls or the date in question. She was even amenable to my request for onsite preparation, and also gave us that option free of charge, which, given the cost of wedding planning, was a huge, unexpected plus!

The day of the wedding, the hair and makeup stylists showed up at 8am on the dot and started setting up immediately, not wasting a minute. They were so efficient that you’d have thought they worked in that bridal suite every day rather than it being their first time at the venue, even though, for many of them, it actually was. All the girls were so talented and did an amazing job on each and every one of the girls in the party, no matter hair type, hair length, or even skin tone. Everyone looked like a star! Despite the windy day, everyone’s hair looked great and lasted the whole day, and the makeup was heavy enough to suit a formal event while also looking natural and elegant. The ladies from the salon also finished about an hour early, which gave me and my bridal party some extra downtime before pictures and the ceremony.
