I reluctantly decided to use Alpine Electronics to try to find out what was wrong with a guitar amplifier after the manufacturer insisted they were the only authorized repair shop in the area. It didn't seem to me that Alpine Electronic Service would have any expertise in guitar amps as they looked to be more of a TV/Household electronics repair shop, but I decided I would look into it & give them a try. I overlooked many negative reviews online as they were for unrelated products & I always take a disgruntled customer's bad review with a big grain of salt. I should have heeded the advice in other reviews and stayed away.
The owner was very polite and accommodating over the phone which was encouraging, and he also assured me he knew exactly what the problem was based on my description over the phone. I was skeptical but gave him the benefit of the doubt. He agreed to meet me for pickup as I live far away from the shop, which was nice, but asked me questions that were big red flags, and way too basic for an "expert" to be asking. At one point he actually said "this is a synthesizer right?" after I had just gotten done explaining the specific issue with my guitar amplifier.
He called after a couple days and said that in his testing (with a CD player, not a guitar!) he couldn't find any problem, but that he would continue to investigate. He later called stating a vacuum tube was faulty on the amp and he had ordered a replacement. When I asked him which one he didn't seem to have an answer. I told him I prefer a certain brand of tube & asked what he had ordered, he didn't know how to answer. Since I had tried different tubes before taking the amp to him in the first place with no joy, I wasn't convinced.
He wanted to charge me $178 for changing the tube & servicing the pots & jacks on the amp, which I never asked him to do...I just wanted my specific issue diagnosed! I told him that was way too much money for that amount of work & that I just wanted my amp back so I could change the tube myself. He got upset and a bit petty with me so I agreed to give him a $20 bill on top of the $50 minimum charge I had already paid. When I picked up the amp the "bad" tube he gave back had obviously been dropped or otherwise mistreated & broken (for any guitar amp literate folks the guide pin was broken & glass envelop seal broken causing a white cloud inside the glass). So the tube wasn't so much faulty as broken by them in their servicing efforts (that I never requested). Also they didn't return the power cord to the amp so now I get to go buy another one of those on top of the money I already wasted.
In the end I got my amp back, went to a different shop, bought a tube for $15, and put it in myself (easy as changing a light bulb on a cathode biased amp like mine). If the issue I was experiencing re-surfaces I will go to Mike Christensen who is easily the most reputable guitar amp tech in the SLC area. I knew better than to go elsewhere in the first place, but I guess I needed to learn a lesson. I would never go back to Alpine Electronic Service for any reason or any...
Read moreWe got introduced to Alpine through a service call through LG. Our TV panel that was less that three months old was defective, and we got routed to Alpine through LG to fix the defective panel.
I was called in short order and told they had availablility the same week - actually within the next several days - but we were out of town. They accommodated us, and scheduled the day around our schedule. Today, I was texted that they had a cancellation and could come a little sooner. We were thrilled. Who hates a service call that is weeks out??
I was told Alexis would show up in the next hour, and he arrived on time, put shoe covers on (we told him it was unnecessary) and evaluated the TV. He took it down from the mount, removed the panel, and went to his vehicle to get the replacement. I did help a little bit but he says he does this solo most of the time. How you can lift a 65" TV from the wall all on your own is beyond me, so I was happy to help!!
In any case, he quickly dissembled the TV, replaced the panel, and got the TV working again on the first try. Our panel is back to working condition, and we couldn't be happier!
But... what's most important is that Alexis answered all my questions - I'm curious by nature, and Alexis was knowledgable and I learned a lot about the internals of the TV.
He also was very relatable and told my wife and I stories about his life that related to ours. Truly a great guy and would trust him again in our house 1000%. We will call Alexis and Alpine for all our future appliance...
Read moreDoes a sloppy job, losing screws, forgetting to connect sensors, resulted in my dryer worse than before. I called back originally just asking why my dryer still doesn't work not knowing how sloppy they did the job, and they said to go through LG and file another claim instead of just sending someone out to fix their mistakes.
Originally, they came to fix my dryer through LG warranty dispatch. After taking everything apart and putting back together, my dryer worked even worse than before. It stopped running after 2 minutes, which is why the tech thought things were fine and just left. A few days later after discovering dryer turns off after 2 minutes, I called these guys back, and they said they already submitted the claim to LG and had me submit another claim (basically they'd get double pay from LG for this job). I submitted a claim, and this time an LG direct service person came and actually fixed the issue. Turns out the Alpine Electronics tech didn't connect the drying sensor, which is why dryer thinks things are dry and just turns off. The LG person replaced a couple screws because they were missing after Alpine Electronics tech took my dryer apart.
Sloppy work, customer service is polite but doesn't actually solve things. You'll get more headache having...
