Not the best Meijer of the three in Genesee and Lapeer counties by far. It is, however, either the largest or very close to it. It's not always very clean, products are often out of stock (especially sale items), and products are not fronted or stocked with latest expiration dates behind more recent dates, and when staff can be found at all they're not always knowledgeable or especially helpful. Some cashiers are unfriendly and/or have difficulty interacting with customers.
The lack of attention to detail is most noticeable when it comes to produce. Produce is always a challenge for any store, but only at thos store have I ever seen a red pepper that was not only bad, but actually covered in mold sitting on top of a pile of red peppers. This fall, a large gourd sitting in a display at the front of the store was rotten. Rotten to the extent that there were visible holes with gnats flying in and out and considerable mold also visible. While discussing it with another shopper, I tapped it very lightly with my toe and half the gourd collapsed and thousands of gnats flew out. The onions are covered in black mold and shallots (which are absolutely delicious but don't move quickly) are so disgusting that I have abandoned attempts to find any at this store.
The clothing department is usually pretty organized and neat as are the pharmacy, beauty, books and periodicals, kitchen, bedding, home improvement, pet, cleaning & laundry, and automotive sections. The garden center is usually well tended in season.
For some reason, this is the ONLY Meijer in two counties that carries Diet Code Red Mountain Dew and this is why I shop at this store at all.
I never shop this location alone after dark as it has a reputation for muggings happening in the parking lot. I have no issues with being there...
Read moreOnce again, Meijer employees, product availability and price were exactly what I was expecting and found. If you will indulge me for a moment, I would like to share how I ended up shopping at Meijer tonight. I had a handful of items that I needed and I live less than 1/2 mile from a Kroger store and the convenience was the factor that led me to go there first tonight. Knowing that they close at 10, I was on a mission to get there and get what I needed before closing time. I arrived at 9:51 and proceeded into the store where I was immediately reminded by a security guard that the store was “closed”. I quickly grabbed a cart dashed around the store, all the time being reminded that I was a nuisance and treated as though my life circumstances that led to my late arrival at the store were intentionally planned for the purposes of making their lives miserable and holding them over for a single minute past 10 pm. I made it to the register and asked for directions to the beef broth so I could get the final item on my list (it turns out that it was a 30 second walk there and back) but three clerks immediately and in unison engaged in a forceful rendition of “we are closed and you have to get out”. NOW, this is where Meijer comes into the picture to save the day and earn my business for all things grocery and more and Kroger has lost my...
Read moreI am normally an avid Meijer shopper. I'm there several times a week. Today was not a good time though. I was limited on time as I was on my way to work. I needed to stop at the service counter to return some clothing items. I was not expecting such a line at 8:30 in the morning. There was four ppl in line, one with a basket full of return items. It was taking a very long time. No one came to help the clerk. I couldn't wait any longer so I decided to take care of my return later and went to the can return. The first machine took my can which got stuck. I had to use another bottle to push it through. That worked but I only got credit for one bottle. Thinking that was a fluke, I tried again. That bottle got stuck. Frustrated, I moved to a different return. That one preceded to send all my cans back to me saying I was putting my hands in too far. But that was the only way to do it because the conveyor belt is set so far into the machine. So I tried giving them a little toss so they would go in far enough with out reaching my hand in. The machine then returned my cans to me saying not to...
