We just had an awesome experience with the Nature Center of Cape May! A guided tour (physical distancing and masks, with our friends) and history and background of Beach Plums.

Wow. Gretchen Whitman led the group tour that we bid on and won at the Nature Center's Catch of Cape May 2020 (virtual) fundraiser. Incredible morning.

A brief history and background on beach plums (who knew these little gems were so special!), then a hike into the dunes to see wild beach plums and pick some for our use later. Since this is apparently not a good year for wild beach plums, Ms. Whitman arranged for a visit to a cultivated beach plum orchard so we could see them in a bountiful state.

Great experience - recipes, samples of beach plum products, history of the fruit, cultivation efforts, and a hike to see these precious plants in the wild. Thanks Gretchen and we cannot wait for things to settle down so we can take part in more of the Nature Center of Cape May's...

If you have young children and are looking for something to do with them other than eat sand on the beach, look no further! I think this place is perfect for 2-3 yr olds. Small play kitchen, live bee hive, turtles, snakes, a tarantula, an outlook with pretty views, a small shed with water tanks that have horseshoe crabs, crabs, urchins, seahorse, and more. The staff are very friendly and helpful. If your kids are much older than 4 or 5, it may not be a "destination" that would take more than 20 min. But my almost 3 yr old was happily entertained for the bargain price of free for abt 2 hrs (and my

This place is a must-see with kids. It is very hands on. Thereโ€™s a beautiful little childrenโ€™s garden to explore with butterflies and birds. My children loved playing on the giant Monarch caterpillar. They also enjoyed playing in the little play kitchen under the stairs. Upstairs includes binoculars for bird watching with an amazing view, a few reptiles, rocks and minerals, and a sensory station where you can examine various insect samples. The bathroom was spotless. Donโ€™t forget your free Ranger Rick magazine on the way out. We had so much fun, we had to come visit twice on...

Donโ€™t miss this often-overlooked Cape May attraction! Nature Center of Cape May runs a variety of programs throughout the summer. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Or, if you are like us and just looking for a little bit of rainy day fun and education, stop by Monday-Saturday 9-4 to explore. ๐Ÿฆ… On the first floor is a small gift shop and a play nook for kids. There was a program running upstairs, and my kids loved playing while we waited to explore the exhibits. ๐Ÿ On the second floor, you will find live animals and some hands-on materials like snake skins and animal pelts. Let your little nature lover grab a magnifying glass and explore. ๐Ÿ‘€ Donโ€™t forget to head outside to the observation deck for sweeping views of the bay. ๐Ÿฅพ On a nicer day, there are trails to explore next to the center. ๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ Free in front of the center ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ FREE โฐ Summer Hours Monday-Saturday 9-4 ๐Ÿ›ถ If you are looking for more nature exploration, rent or book a kayak tour with Aquatrails which operates and launches from the same site. Their summer hours are 8 am-5 pm, 7 days a week, or book a sunset tour Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays! #traveltiktok #njfamilyfun #capemay #capcut #beachvacation

Lots of fun for the kids and parents as well. We were there on a class trip today and it was set up into three different stations. One station was out on the beach where the kids learned about the local marine life by setting up a bunch of fish, shrimp and horseshoe crabs then getting lessons on each. The second station was at the gift shop and nature center and the last station was in the aquatic lab where kids got up close and personal with horseshoe crabs and learned all about them. The kids had a great time!
