Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center — Local services in Carefree

We love this place! It is quiet, tucked away in the mountains with incredible views of Black Mountain and the Tonto National Forest mountains! It is a lush Sonoran Desert campus as well so you get a very real surrounding of desert flora and fauna. The fountains--they are awesome! All this scenery provides a truly spiritual atmosphere. The rooms are large and comfy and quiet, love the private balconies! The pool is so clean, the hot tub soaking under starry night skies--yeah--can't get that in the city. Best of all though is the hospitality. The staff there is incredible at making your stay a memorable event. The food is delicious and so much to choose from. Their chefs make everything by scratch--even the salad dressings! The one large conference room has one glass wall looking out onto the desert and Black Mountain! There is also a labyrinth and a meditation hiking path. You are a 5-minute walk from Carefree which is a neat eclectic town whose main streets are Ho and Hum ... you can't find a more peaceful setting right on the "city's edge!" I attended our Synod Women's Retreat and the experience was so spiritually uplifting. Cyndys music and the prayers that pour out of her are so wonderful. The desert setting is beyond description with the beautiful plants and the mountain views. It was so easy to meditate while walking the Labyrinth and the Islands of Silence. . The room was large and very comfortable and near items like the coffee/beverage machine. The food is so wonderful, served nicely and VERY TASTY. The Staff is friendly and meeting areas are great. Don't miss a chance to go there!

Spirit in the Desert is well named, as it is an island of peace and retreat which might come as a surprise after driving through the heavily populated Phoenix area. The location has become an annual destination for me to join a group for study and fellowship and, as such, it is more like a coming home than a travel B&B. But if ranking it as a travel stay, I give top scores for hospitality and amenities as well as location.
