A to Z Pharmacy — Local services in Cary

Excellent local pharmacy. I was tired of using a big chain grocery store pharmacy and kept having so many problems — I’m very happy I switched to A to Z. Pharmacists and techs here are always pleasant to talk to, put in every effort into saving you money where possible, and get your prescriptions filled quickly. They’re very efficient and always fully on top of everything. Pharmacists are also incredibly knowledgeable and I know I can receive a thorough answer whenever I have a question or concern about a medication or supplement.

My only small complaint is that they are (rarely!) closed or on shortened hours outside of their regular schedule, which is completely understandable for a smaller local business. I do wish that they would add this information to their website when a sporadic hours adjustment happens. I drove over today, Saturday, January 18th, 2025 when they would normally be open, and found a sign saying they were closed. Again, I’m not upset about this, I just wish they would update their website consistently so I could check before I drive over.

I almost don’t want to say anything because I’m afraid of blowing up my own good spot. This is an independently owned pharmacy which is already a rarity in this country, but the quality and attention I have gotten here deserves a call out. The women who work here have helped me deal with other pharmacies when my prescriptions were sent incorrectly, they told me useful information I wasn’t privy to prior to being prescribed certain medications. They do good work and must be protected at all costs. For those reading this review: this is not a cvs. They don’t have shelves of candy or a row for toys. It’s a small (relatively barebones) pharmacy with products the owner obviously approves of as a pharmacist. Please don’t ruin this place with boomer “customer is always right” expectations, or give the people behind the front desk a hard time for doing their jobs. This is a medical establishment and you’ll get what you give… that isn’t to say the staff aren’t immediately helpful and attentive- they were right off the bat, but I’m tired of good workers getting burnt out from unrealistic expectations. We changed to A to Z both out is dissatisfaction with a pharmacy of one of the major national drugstore chains AND based on the many positive comments from new friends and neighbors in the nearby retirement community we recently joined. We are very happy with the service Kristen (owner/pharmacist) and her colleagues provide.

Today, I arrived at the pharmacy to pick up a Rx 20 minutes after the normal opening time. The door was locked. However a young woman was there to explain that Kristen was experiencing a emergency and opening would be later. The impressed me. Someone among those who operate the pharmacy was thoughtful to be there and explain the problem. I am hoping Kristen's situation resolves soon, and have no doubt the pharmacy will quickly reopen. It is, one might consider, a situation that a single-pharmacist pharmacy might reasonably expect to have occur.
