Connie's Pond and Koi — Local services in Castro Valley

I bought several aquatic plants and snails from the tanks here a few months ago to add to my wine barrel pond and, shame on me, didn’t quarantine them before adding to my system. They were infested with leeches. After a couple months they multiplied and now I’m finding them on my chickens. They crawled up their legs after they perched in the pond and made themselves at home in their cloacas. The anticoagulants were causing the chickens to defecate fresh blood. It was an absolute horror show. The pond is fed through a one way mechanical float valve from a pressurized sealed well and there are no other water sources accessible to the birds that could have been the source. I did not add any plants, water, or media from other sources and no other animals have access to the pond. Check your fish and plants before introducing to your habitat!! My family and I moved into our house last year, and in the backyard there is a beautiful pond. Only thing was, I didn't know a thing about how to set it up or take care of it. Last summer I went to Lowes and tried myself to rig it so that the 2 waterfalls worked, to no avail. Now the weather is warm again and again I failed trying to make it work correctly myself. So the wife and I drove an hour to Connies Pond and Koi store, and it was so worth it. We talked to Hank there, and he was more than helpful, told me exactly what i needed to do to set up the hoses to my pumps, and even built me a little rig. This place is UNBELIEVABLE! I forgot the owners name but I use to patronize his business back in '09 Regularly. He helped me build my 55 gallon tank. All 16 of my fish died but he gave me 16 more fish to start over. SUCCESS!👍🏿 YESTERDAY, I went in looking for activated charcoal. Immediately his wife greeted me and ask if I needed help. 🙂 She even turned the waterfall on so I could see it work since I hasn't visited in a while.
