I went to this shelter today. I adopted two pets. This lady came in and drop off two Chihuahuas that she said she found at the park. I asked her if I could have the smaller Chihuahuas and she said yes. Vanessa was the employee that helped us. Vanessa was SO professional. Vanessa also stated that this was a transaction between the pedestrian that came in, and not the Riverside County Animal Shelter. The couple was so nice, and they told me thank you. One of the pets that I adopted has diarrhea. I have to get her antibiotics and probiotics for the next few days until she is healthier. I stayed at the shelter for almost 2 hours to ensure that both my new pets were officially ready to go home. This employee named, Miguel, said that if I want to adopt the smaller Chihuahua that I would have to take both Chihuahua, to try to deflect me from getting them smaller Chihuahua. Then he escalated the situation saying that the Chihuahua also had diarrhea, but she was unavailable to be adopted, because she has diarrhea. I ALREADY ADOPTED A PUPPY WITH DIARRHEA THE SAME DAY. I know you might be saying, why adopt 3 pets? I rescued 2 puppies previously (Maltipoos). I got them both microchipped at a Riverside County Animal Shelter (different location). I had my babies since 2018 and never adopted a puppy since then. This is not something that I do on a regular basis. The pets I've adopted have always been loved. The supervisor (young woman with brown hair. I don't have her name, but I will update this with you once I have her name.) and Miguel laughed at me, and then told me no, because I already adopted 2 pets. And that they were going to foster the puppy that I was already promised to someone else. No one ever said anything about how many pets you can adopt. And again this transaction has nothing to do with the Riverside County Animal Shelter. One of the employees told me that she has adopted 5 pets since she started working there. She has only been an employee for 90+ days. I'm so disappointed. I've always had the best experience with the animal shelters for Riverside County, but this is beyond emotionally distributing. I was the only Black person in the shelter. This situation is...
Read more0 stars if i could. We adopted a dog from this place a few days ago. Firstly, they seemed to be rushing us. We had a visit with the dog and they came in and asked if we were done and wanted the dog gone before even asking if we had any questions about her. We really liked her so we went through with paperwork, the only thing they informed us about her was she was iffy about other animals, which was fine. We got her home and i started brushing her and black crumps started coming up on the brush, and a lot of it. At first i thought it was dirt, but i got suspicious of fleas eventually, and i pulled out her paperwork to reveal she was treated for fleas twice while she was there, they didnt care to tell us! She was filthy, full of dead fleas and flea dirt.. She was recently spayed so we were told not to bathe her for 10days due to stitches and recovery. So i tried to clean her as much as possible with just combing. Next morning i was combing her all out again and wanted to check her ears to make sure they were clean and at first glance I quickly noticed a odd brown thing. Closer look it was a big tick! Must have been there for a few weeks. During their initial exams on her and pre surgery exams they should have noticed it on her and removed it. We got it out, but were very upset that these people were so neglectful. Day 3, was walking her in the morning, she had a poop and i see worms!!! The poor thing has worms as well. 3 days of having this dog and we're nursing her back to health. She is the sweestest thing and we regret nothing. But these people neglected this dog and neglected to inform us of her medical history, and didn't properly care for this dog. I 100% support adopting shelter dogs, giving a dog a second chance, but i also expect a place to care well for those dogs. It makes me think of all the other poor dogs there that could have underlying issues that arent being cared for properly. Very disappointed and wont be back there. I pray for the health of all those animals, and expect better things from...
Read moreSo I saw a very handsome black Labrador available for adoption, but with a caveat that states he is to be euthanized within 24 hours. After waiting on the phone for a response from a representative to inquire on the Labrador, finally spoke with someone.
I asked if the lab could be placed on hold as I live 100 miles away, and why is such a beautiful lab even being on a kill list. The woman who picked up the phone expressed no empathy, no concern, just quoting some lines she read off a screen. Was told in a not so friendly manner that if the lab isn’t rescued by tomorrow, meaning the 24th of February, that he would be euthanized.
I then asked the woman on the phone if she has owned a dog, but she declined to answer, and that she is just an operator.
Why warehouse animals at this location if you aren’t even going to try let someone make a date to drive out and adopt. At this point it became obvious that not only does this shelter have people picking up the phone who do not even work there, but have no compassion, or empathy towards the animals who are scheduled to die if not rescued and do not even have a care about animals.
As a healthcare worker, it would be comparable to someone calling me to fill their medications, but I could not allow them if they don’t show up in person to order.
This facility needs to be more accommodating to help adopt their pets as many are falling through the cracks, and do not get a chance to be rescued by either an animal rescue, or someone who needs to schedule a time to drive down.
You are not helping our furry pets by euthanizing them before they...
