Still trying to process what I saw, heard , and felt last night at Columbia Speedway Entertainment Center. Incredibly easy ingress to the venue despite the lack of any traffic control peeps. No worries, my people are all seasoned professionals. We know how to park at shows. And it was free. Was a bit concerned at 7pm when my CoveMates were just arriving but we quickly connected and went to the entrance. Only the North Gate was open and the queue was long but moving. The empty South Gate was not open; but right on time, my friends showed up and so did friendly yellowjackets to open the South Gate. Breezed in, perfunctory bag check, hoist up my face diaper, and it was off to Cove 4M. It was a 10 by 12 roped off area of the thick, grassy infield that easily held my five smiling, hugging high fiving jig dancing humans. I have attended many live shows in my life: small clubs, arenas and sheds, the dinosaur playground of Red Rocks, and massive stadium throw downs. In the age of Covid-19 and limited capacity, this set up was awesome and perfect. Is this the future of shows? Can the artists $ettle for us not being crammed in like $ardines? Everyone had space to move and breathe, and with the cove set up there are no Tall Brothers blocking my vertically challenged view of the magic on stage. The contactless ordering system worked flawlessly and the food was tasty. Normal show prices so be prepared. The venue has two MASSIVE video screens that deliver sharp, bright visual candy and the Sound where we were happily turf stomping was pristine, clear, and full. On my halftime trip to the Urination Station, the Sound was still mighty fine about 1/3 way back. Was it chilly? Sure. But, it could have been a white out blizzard and it would not have stopped the fun at this outstanding venue. After a transcendent, soul recharging night of music, love, and jams, it was time to go. Again, my Fellow Tribe of Show Veterans quickly egressed out despite any visible light saber wielding helpers. I was interstate bound home to Florence 9 minutes after leaving the venue. My only regret? Not being able hit the next three Billy Strings shows. Is it June 5th and 6th yet? Much love and props to Cola Concerts for a transcendent night and congratulations to all involved for creating a beautiful, laid back venue. Smiling, friendly staff, eclectic musical tastes guaranteed to melt anyone's ears, plus it is located in my hometown of Columbia? Support this place and spread the word.... LIVE...

When we visited the speedway, we were attending the Tartan Day South Festival. Tartan Day South is an excellent Festival in celebration of the Scottish / Celtic Heritage. They had Highlander games, vendors selling all sorts of Celtic items, music and dancing. It was nice to find out that they had gone through the effort to get a Tartan material officially approved through Scotland for our area of South Carolina: West Columbia, Cayce, and Columbia. If you haven't been, you really need to go to this Festival. I've been there twice and I'll keep returning. The band, Syr, performed an energetic, celtic rock concert which was fabulous. Even more fabulous is that they are from Colombia and they are known not only in the United State but in England and other countries. The price alone to get into the festival was worth it just for being able to enjoy their music.

One thing that would improve the Historic Speedway is if they installed nice, permanent bathrooms with sinks to wash your hands, especially, in times like we are going through...

I attended The Southern Soul Festival on 07/08/23 with my family and friends for my Birthday..THIS WAS THE WORST BIRTHDAY EXPERIENCE EVER!!! We called to get further info before purchasing tickets.. We were told we could bring coolers upon arriving we were charged $10 per vehicle for parking we wasn't ever told about a parking fee ...in which we called twice and it was never mentioned and it wasn't online under the event..when we arrived at gate we were told we could not have coolers and we couldn't go back to vehicle to get beverages even though we were told we could have coolers..the event staff was very ghetto, rude, disrespectful and unprofessional..once we got through the circus and entered the grass looked like it had been cut earlier in the week and it was growing back we had to keep looking down at our feet...I dont think we will ever be attending anything...

We visited this place to attend an annual event at this old speedway. Just an open field now. But nostalgic with the open walls and lack of upkeep. The stands removed with only the stumps remaining. Wonder what the actual history of this site is? That’s another google search….
